The Mets released Severino on Saturday to allow him to pursue an opportunity in Japan, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Severino will move to Nippon Professional Baseball after turning in an impressive 1.31 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 20.2 innings at Triple-A Syracuse. If he continues to find success overseas, he could eventually draw interest from MLB clubs and return stateside on a big-league deal.
