Titans' Jermaine Johnson: Traded to Titans
The Jets have agreed to trade Johnson to the Titans in exchange for defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Johnson, a 2022 first-round pick, will reunite with new Tennessee head coach Robert Saleh. The talented pass rusher had a down year in terms of production in 2025, racking up 43 tackles (22 solo) including just 3.0 sacks across 14 regular-season appearances, but that can be partially explained by the fact that Johnson was working his way back from a right Achilles' tear suffered the year prior. He also had two pass breakups. Back in 2023, Johnson tallied 7.5 sacks while playing all 17 regular-season games. As the Jets have already exercised Johnson's fifth-year option, he will play out the 2026 campaign with the Titans on the final year of his rookie deal. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the trade will officially process at the start of the new league year March 11.

Jets' Jermaine Johnson: Down year in return from Achilles'
Johnson recorded 43 tackles (22 solo), including 3.0 sacks, and two passes defensed across 14 appearances in 2025.
Johnson wasn't quite the same player in his return from a Sept. 2024 right Achilles' tendon tear. The 2022 first-round draft pick had 7.5 sacks and seven passes defensed in his Pro Bowl 2023 season prior to the injury. Perhaps being another year removed from the injury will help Johnson bounce back in 2026, when he will play on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, which the Jets exercised this past April. Johnson remains locked in as a starting edge rusher for the Jets.

Johnson (ankle) does not carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against Miami.
Johnson opened the week as a DNP due to an ankle injury, but he was able to shed an injury tag for Week 14 after logging a full practice Friday. The fourth-year defensive end has accumulated 15 tackles (six solo), including 2.0 sacks, in four games since the Jets' Week 9 bye.

Johnson (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
Johnson's limited session is an upgrade from Wednesday, when he was unable to practice. The bump up in participation suggests Johnson is trending towards playing in Sunday's divisional contest against the Dolphins. The starting defensive end will have one more practice to improve his participation and potentially dodge an injury designation for Sunday.

Johnson has registered 27 tackles (15 solo) and 3.0 sacks through the past seven games, so his potential absence would be a significant hit to the Jets' defense. If he can't go Sunday versus the Dolphins, Micheal Clemons and, to a lesser extent, Braiden McGregor could see increases in their respective snap counts.

Johnson recorded two total tackles (one solo), including 1.0 sacks, in Thursday night's 27-14 loss to the Patriots.
The 2022 first-round pick from Florida State was the only Jet to get after the quarterback in the Week 11 loss, sacking Drake Maye in the fourth quarter. Johnson has now logged a full sack in back-to-back games and three of his last five. He's tallied 25 total tackles, including 3.0 sacks, and one pass defended over just seven appearances this season. Expect Johnson to continue causing problems for opposing quarterbacks in the Week 12 matchup against the Ravens.

Johnson recorded four total tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks, in Sunday's 27-20 victory over the Browns.
Johnson was on the field for a season-high 61 defensive snaps in Week 10, most notably getting to Dillon Gabriel for a sack in the fourth quarter. The defensive lineman has now registered 23 total tackles (13 solo), including 2.0 sacks, while also notching a pass defensed over six games this year.

Johnson raised his participation level Thursday after sitting out Wednesday's practice, which is an encouraging sign coupled with Wednesday's report from Cimini that head coach Aaron Glenn is optimistic about Johnson returning to action Sunday against the Broncos in London. Johnson hasn't suited up since Week 2 against the Bills, and the Jets' lack of edge depth behind him has been exposed during his absence.
