Pierce suffered a groin injury during an Aug. 10 practice and missed Saturday's preseason game. He's unlikely to play in the Colts' final preseason contest but looks to be on track for the start of the regular season.

Previous reports suggested that Pierce was day-to-day, but given the wideout's continued absence from practice, it seems safe to say he won't see any action in Saturday's preseason contest against the Packers. Pierce returned after originally heading to the locker room, but he limped off again after trying some agility work and was carted back inside. It's unclear if this injury is related to the foot injury that sidelined Pierce earlier in training camp. Pierce tried to return to practice after initially heading to the locker room due to the injury, but he was carted back to the locker room shortly afterwards. A recovery timetable has yet to be established, but if Pierce misses additional time due to this injury, it would create more opportunities for Adonai Mitchell to work in three-receiver sets alongside Josh Downs and Michael Pittman.

Pierce (foot) is participating in practice Tuesday, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
Pierce missed Monday's practice due to a blister on his foot, but it didn't take long for the 2022 second-round pick to get back to work. Despite poor quarterback play last year for the Colts, Pierce tallied career-high marks in receiving yards (824) and touchdowns (seven) while leading the league in yards per catch (22.3) across 16 regular-season games. As Indianapolis' go-to deep threat, every training camp rep will matter for Pierce as he works to build chemistry with both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.

Colts' Alec Pierce: Not focused on contract extension
Pierce stated Saturday that he's expecting to play out the season without a contract extension, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports. "I haven't even really like thought about it too much in terms of myself. I know my agents might've want to talk with them a while back, but I feel like ... it's going to be a play the season out (kind of thing)," Pierce stated, per James Boyd of The Athletic.
Pierce took a step forward in his third NFL campaign last year, notching career highs with 824 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns while averaging a league-high 22.3 yards per catch over 16 regular-season games. He's been almost exclusively a deep threat, however, as he logged a modest 37 receptions last year, 13 of which went for 20-plus yards. The Colts have one of the least favorable QB situations in the league for wideouts with Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones competing for the starting role, which could hamper Pierce's chances of breaking out further. He'll be in the final year of his rookie contract in 2025, and his comments Saturday suggest that he's not necessarily expecting to be extended by Indianapolis.
