Raiders' Justin Shorter: Joins Vegas' 53-man roster
Shorter was signed to the Raiders' active roster from the practice squad Friday, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
Shorter played wide receiver in college at Florida but attempted to convert to tight end in the NFL. The 2024 fifth-round pick of the Bills played in 10 regular-season games with Buffalo last season but saw action almost exclusively on special teams. Now back at wide receiver, the 6-foot-5 Shorter will provide depth for the Raiders following Thursday's announcement from Amari Cooper that the veteran wideout is retiring.

Shorter was active for all three of the team's preseason contests, reeling in three catches for 22 yards. The wide receiver played in 10 regular-season games with Las Vegas in 2024, but he failed to record any offensive stats in those contests. Shorter will now be placed on waivers, and his experience last season could make him an intriguing target for the rest of the league.

Shorter (back) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Shorter was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, but he ended the week with consecutive DNPs due to a back injury. With Shorter sidelined for Sunday's contest, Harrison Bryant will serve as the Raiders' No. 3 tight end behind Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer. It appears that Shorter is switching positions after playing wide receiver throughout college and in the NFL, as he was announced as a tight end when the Raiders signed him to their practice squad Thursday. At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds with a 4.55 40-yard dash time, Shorter becomes a very intriguing vertical threat at TE if he can make it onto Las Vegas' active roster at any point this season.

The Bills waived Shorter on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Once a top recruit coming out of high school, Shorter never put it all together at Penn State and Florida before being taken in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by Buffalo. He missed his entire rookie season with a hamstring injury and then dealt with a knee issue this summer. Shorter played 52 offensive snaps this preseason but caught just two passes for 15 yards. At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds with 4.55 wheels, Shorter has a tantalizing blend of size and speed but has yet to realize that potential.
