Vikings' Ben Sims: Staying in NFC North with Minnesota
The Vikings claimed Sims off waivers from the Packers on Monday.
Sims was waived by the Packers on Saturday, but he'll remain in the NFC North as a member of the Vikings, and his move corresponds with Carson Wentz (shoulder) being placed on injured reserve. Sims will give Minnesota added depth at tight end, and the third-year pro could have a somewhat meaningful role behind T.J. Hockenson and Ben Yurosek for this Sunday's game against the Lions if Josh Oliver (foot) is unable to play. Sims mostly played on special teams across his three-regular season appearances for the Packers prior to his removal from the roster.

Ben Sims: Parts ways with Packers
Green Bay waived Sims on Saturday.
The Packers needed to clear a spot on the 53-man roster in order to activate wideout Christian Watson (knee) from the reserve/PUP list, and Sims was consequently cut. Sims had gotten into three games prior to being let go but logged only one offensive snap along with 14 snaps on special teams.

Packers' Ben Sims: Healthy scratch Week 2
Sims (coach's decision) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Commanders, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports.
Sims will be a healthy scratch for a second straight game, and his next chance to make his 2025 debut is Week 3 against the Browns on Sunday, Sept. 21. Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave and John FitzPatrick will be the Packers' active tight ends for Thursday's clash.

Packers' Ben Sims: Won't play Week 1
Sims (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Lions, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports.
Sims will be in street clothes for Sunday's regular-season opener while Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave and John FitzPatrick serve as the Packers' active tight ends. Sims' next chance to make his 2025 regular-season debut is Thursday against the Commanders.

Packers' Ben Sims: Remains in bit role
Sims was targeted five times and caught four passes for 42 yards across 17 games in the 2024 season.
Sims appeared in every regular-season game the Packers played in 2024 and served as the backup tight end while Luke Musgrave missed 10 weeks, but he was mainly limited to blocking duties. The Packers know what they have in the third-year player, which bodes well for his chances of retaining a roster spot in 2025. However, chances are Green Bay will look to bring in at least another option behind starting tight end Tucker Kraft.

Packers' Ben Sims: Assumes backup role
Sims was targeted twice and caught two passes for 38 yards in Sunday's 34-13 victory over the Cardinals.
Sims took over the backup tight end spot with Luke Musgrave (ankle) landing on injured reserve, and he recorded his first two receptions of the season, including a career-best 28-yard catch. Expect him to continue working as the No. 2 tight end behind Tucker Kraft until Musgrave is ready to return.

Packers' Ben Sims: Limited to special teams in Week 1
Sims played all seven of his snaps on special teams in the Packers' 34-29 loss to the Eagles on Friday.
Outside of situations in which the Packers want to get an extra blocker on the field, Sims will likely struggle to find a role on offense while both of Green Bay's top two tight ends, Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave, are available. Sims appeared in all 17 regular-season games as a rookie in 2023 and finished with a 4-21-1 receiving line on six targets.

Packers' Ben Sims: Records lone reception
Sims caught one pass for 10 yards in Sunday's preseason game against the Broncos.
After being blanked in Green Bay's first exhibition contest, Sims made at least a minor mark in his next opportunity. He sits third on the depth chart at his position with one preseason game to go.

Packers' Ben Sims: Suits up for every game
Sims was targeted six times and caught four passes for 21 yards and a touchdown over 17 regular-season games in 2023.
Sims spent his rookie season in a bit role, but he suited up for all 17 regular-season games and both playoff contests the Packers played, which is not too shabby for an undrafted rookie who was claimed off waivers shortly before the campaign began. It's going to be tough for Sims to move up the depth chart with both players ahead of him (Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft) also heading into their second seasons, but Sims likely will head into training camp with a good chance to retain a roster spot.

Packers' Ben Sims: Scores first touchdown
Sims was targeted once and caught a one-yard touchdown pass in Sunday's 27-19 victory over Kansas City.
Sims recorded his first reception since Week 7, and also the first touchdown of his professional career. He is seeing more snaps with fellow rookie tight end Luke Musgrave (abdomen) unavailable, but he is still second in line behind yet another rookie, Tucker Kraft.

Packers' Ben Sims: Records first reception
Sims was targeted once and caught one pass for 12 yards in Monday's 17-13 loss to the Raiders.
The reception was the first for the rookie, who was claimed off waivers in late August. He has seen action in all five games Green Bay has played to date, but he is also a clear fourth in snaps played among Packers tight ends.

Packers' Ben Sims: Claimed by Green Bay
Sims was claimed off waivers by the Packers on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Sims was waived by the Vikings on Tuesday, but he'll remain in the division after being claimed by Green Bay. He'll attempt to carve out work as a reserve tight end behind Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft in 2023 after Tyler Davis sustained a torn ACL during the Packers' preseason opener.

Ben Sims: Waived by Minnesota
The Vikings waived Sims on Tuesday, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Sims joined the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in late April but missed out on a 53-man roster spot. It's unclear whether he'll draw interest from other teams ahead of the 2023 campaign.
