Jaguars' Cody Schrader: Back with Jacksonville
The Jaguars signed Schrader on Wednesday.
The third-year pro from Missouri was waived by the Jaguars on Monday, but it now appears the team had a change of heart. Schrader has appeared in one game for Jacksonville this season and failed to record a stat across four special-teams snaps. Now back with the Jaguars, he'll likely play a depth role in the team's backfield as the season progresses.

Cody Schrader: Let go by Jacksonville
Schrader was waived by the Jaguars on Monday.
Schrader will be placed on waivers after appearing in one contest with the Jaguars this year, failing to record any stats over four snaps on special teams in Week 1 versus Houston. If the running back clears waivers, he'll likely have to settle for a practice-squad spot at his next destination.

Jaguars' Cody Schrader: Catches on with Jags' active roster
The Jaguars signed Schrader off the Rams' practice squad to the active roster Tuesday.
The move corresponds with the Jaguars trading Tank Bigsby to the Eagles on Monday in exchange for 2026 fifth- and sixth-round draft picks. Schrader signed with the Rams' practice squad after failing to make the 53-man roster out of training camp, but he was elevated to the active roster for their Week 1 win over the Texans, when he logged four snaps on special teams without showing up on the box score otherwise. Schrader will likely be limited to a special-teams role in Jacksonville while serving as a depth backfield option behind Travis Etienne, Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen.

Cody Schrader: Returns to practice squad
Schrader reverted to the Rams' practice squad Monday.
Schrader was elevated from the practice squad for the Rams' Week 1 win over the Texans and logged four snaps on special teams without recording any statistics. With Kyren Williams and Blake Corum set to handle the vast majority of the backfield reps for the Rams, Schrader's path to gameday elevations likely depends on the status of Jarquez Hunter, who was a healthy inactive Week 1.

Rams' Cody Schrader: Elevated for Week 1
Los Angeles elevated Schrader from the practice squad Saturday.
Should be deemed active, Schrader will be available as the Rams' RB4 for Sunday's Week 1 opener against Houston. He isn't expected to see much, if any, offensive playing time behind Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Jarquez Hunter.

Cody Schrader: Staying in Los Angeles
The Rams signed Schrader to the practice squad Wednesday, Wyatt Miller of the team's official site reports.
Schrader will stay in Los Angeles as a member of the Rams' practice squad after he failed to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp. The second-year running back logged 27 carries for 120 yards and three catches (on four targets) for 33 yards across the Rams' three preseason games.

Cody Schrader: Fails to make 53-man roster
Schrader was waived by the Rams on Tuesday.
The second-year running back entered training camp competing for a depth spot in the Rams' backfield. He logged 140 total yards of offense through the first two preseason games but ended on a whimper in the Rams' final exhibition contest against the Rams on Saturday, when he turned nine carries into just 13 yards while failing to log a catch. The Rams have opted to go with three running backs on the main roster in Blake Corum, Jarquez Hunter and starter Kyren Williams, but Schrader could stay in Los Angeles as a member of the Rams' practice squad, assuming he clears waivers.

Rams' Cody Schrader: Struggles in final showcase
Schrader rushed nine times for 13 yards and returned one kick for 29 yards during Saturday's 19-17 preseason loss to the Browns.
Schrader's momentum came to a halt with a disastrous outing against the Browns. After starting the preseason hot with 140 total yards on offense in his first two appearances, he averaged a paltry 1.4 YPC against Cleveland and failed to record a target for the first time all preseason. Saturday's performance will leave the second-year running back from Missouri in a precarious position with final roster cuts looming soon, as Kyren Williams and Blake Corum are locks to make the team and fourth-round pick Jarquez Hunter (who started the preseason finale for the Rams) is almost certain to join them.

Rams' Cody Schrader: Nets 15 touches on busy day
Schrader rushed 13 times for 48 yards and caught two of three targets for 24 yards during Saturday's 23-22 preseason victory against the Chargers. He also returned three kicks for 73 yards.
For the second straight preseason game, coach Sean McVay chose to take a long look at the second-year running back; Schrader led all running backs with 38 snaps on offense and was second on the team with his 13 carries. Schrader wasn't nearly as effective as he was last week, however, averaging just 3.7 YPC (the same as fourth-round rookie Jarquez Hunter, notably). The Missouri product did showcase his versatility again, managing a pair of receptions and a trio of kick returns, but his position on the Rams' running back pecking order likely didn't budge based on this performance. Schrader has one last chance to make a statement next Saturday in the Rams' preseason finale against the Browns.

Rams' Cody Schrader: Leads team in rushing
Schrader rushed five times for 59 yards and caught his only target for nine yards and a touchdown during Saturday's 31-21 preseason victory over the Cowboys. He also had a 22-yard kick return.
The second-year back's performance on Saturday was a far cry from his first preseason stint in 2024 with the 49ers, in which he managed just 21 yards on 15 carries over two contests. Schrader was untouched on his nine-yard touchdown reception, and he broke multiple tackles during a game-high 25-yard rush in the fourth quarter. Despite the strong showing, Schrader faces an uphill battle to claim a roster spot with Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and fourth-round rookie Jarquez Hunter all likely to make the 53-man roster, and Ronnie Rivers (ribs) and Jordan Waters also battling to make the team.

Rams' Cody Schrader: Inactive for Week 2
Schrader (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Arizona, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
Schrader will be a healthy inactive for a second straight week as the Rams roll with Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Ronnie Rivers as the three running backs for Sunday's game. Schrader's next chance to suit up will come Week 3 against the 49ers on Sept. 22.

Rams' Cody Schrader: Inactive Sunday
Schrader (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday versus the Lions, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
Schrader joined the Rams on Aug. 28 after being waived by the 49ers, so it's not a major surprise that he'll be unavailable Sunday. The running back will operate as an extreme depth option behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum in the backfield with Los Angeles this season, likely limiting his chances of being active on game day.

Rams' Cody Schrader: Lands with Rams
The Rams claimed Schrader off waivers from the 49ers on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The undrafted rookie out of Missouri was waived by San Francisco a day earlier, after finishing the preseason with 19 carries for 48 yards, two catches for eight yards and four kick returns for 120 yards. Schrader finished eighth in Heisman Trophy during his final season at Missouri in 2023 after rushing for 1,627 yards, but he's more likely to see playing time on special teams early on for the Rams.

Cody Schrader: Dropped by San Fran
Schrader was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday.
Schrader joined San Francisco in April as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri, where he led the SEC in rushing as a sixth-year senior in 2023. However, the 5-foot-9 running back failed to catch on this preseason. Schrader will now be subject to waivers and, if he goes unclaimed, he could be a candidate to rejoin the 49ers via the practice squad. In his absence, Jordan Mason, Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor will serve as the backups behind fantasy star Christian McCaffrey (calf).

49ers' Cody Schrader: Slow start to exhibition schedule
Schrader gained 15 yards on seven carries and added one reception (on three targets) for five yards in Sunday's preseason win over the Saints.
Schrader struggled to find running room for the second exhibition game in a row, finishing both contests with a per-carry average well below 3.0 yards. The undrafted rookie still has some work to do in terms of earning a roster spot following the upcoming preseason finale against the Raiders.

49ers' Cody Schrader: Role elevated in preseason debut
Schrader rushed five times for six yards while catching his lone target for three yards in Saturday's preseason loss to Tennessee.
Schrader was the first back brought off the bench behind elevated starter Jordan Mason on a night where the starting offense was rested and multiple running backs remained sidelined with injuries. The undrafted Missouri product didn't do much with his opportunity, but he does offer some upside with a proven college career that seemingly had him fall through the cracks during the NFL Draft. Schrader will definitely be buried on the depth chart if he sticks on San Francisco's roster, but he could prove useful should he land in a situation with a path to touches as a rookie.

Cody Schrader: Intends to sign with San Francisco
Schrader is slated to sign with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
Schrader had a mid-to-late-round draft grade from most analysts but somewhat surprisingly wasn't selected Saturday. Already 24 years old, Schrader walked on at Missouri after four years at Truman State. He was a bellcow back for the Tigers from 2022-23, amassing 446-2,372-23 on the ground and 41 catches for 328 scoreless yards. He led the SEC in rushing as a sixth-year senior last season. Schrader joins a backfield that includes Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell, Jordan Mason, fourth-round rookie Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor.
