Nate Herbig: Released by Commanders
Herbig was released from the reserve/retired list Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Herbig announced his retirement from the NFL at the end of July while recovering from a torn rotator cuff. He is theoretically now free to sign with any team, though he hasn't indicated that he plans to play again.

Nate Herbig: Retires from NFL
The Commanders placed Herbig on the reserve/retired list Tuesday, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports.
Herbig ended last season on IR due to a torn rotator cuff but appeared healthy and ready to contribute as a reserve interior offensive lineman for Washington. However, he'll instead hang up the cleats after starting in 30 of his 61 career appearances in the NFL.

Commanders' Nate Herbig: Lands with Washington
The Commanders signed Herbig on Friday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Herbig has returned to health after a torn rotator cuff forced him to miss all of Pittsburgh's 2024 season, and he now joins Washington as a veteran option at guard. He'll assist the interior of the Commanders' offensive line in keeping Jayden Daniels, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, upright during the upcoming season.

Steelers' Nate Herbig: Healthy for free agency
Herbig (shoulder), who spent the entire 2024 season on IR due to a torn rotator cuff, has attained a clean bill of health for the start of free agency, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Herbig missed all of the 2024 season due to a torn rotator cuff sustained in August, but he played a full 17-game campaign (two starts) with the team in 2023. He may need to search for a backup role at guard in free agency.
