Sewo Olonilua: Waived by Dallas
The Cowboys waived Olonilua (neck) on Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Olonilua sustained a neck injury during last preseason's Hall of Fame Game between the Cowboys and Steelers and was ruled out for the remainder of the season after being placed on injured reserve. The injury couldn't have come at a worst time for the fullback, who was expected to garner a sizable role during the preseason and had a good chance of making the roster with a solid showing. Olonilua was poised to compete for a roster spot again this season after declaring his rehab was going well, but the Cowboys will instead stick with Nick Ralston -- who made four appearances in 2021 -- as their top fullback heading into training camp.

Cowboys' Sewo Olonilua: Rehab going well
Olonilua's (neck) rehab following season-ending surgery last year is going well, and he's in the mix to make the initial 53-man roster for the 2022 campaign, Nick Eatman and David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.

The TCU product was activated last week for a win over the 49ers as well, though he ultimately didn't see any offensive role. The TCU product saw his only action on special teams, garnering 25 snaps during a 41-33 win over San Francisco. Olonilua has been uninvolved in the ground attack for Dallas after collecting 537 rushing yards and eight rushing scores for the Horned Frogs last year.

The undrafted rookie out of TCU looks poised to make his NFL debut. Olonilua played fullback in college and is listed at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, so he's expected to fill a similar role Sunday against the Steelers. Ezekiel Elliott (hamstring) is expected to sit out, too, so Olonilua could handle a couple of touches in short-yardage situations, while Tony Pollard handles a bulk of the backfield reps.
