C.J. Gardner-Johnson: Finds work in Baltimore
The Ravens signed Gardner-Johnson to the practice squad Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Gardner-Johnson started each of the Texans' first three games this season and played 96 percent of the defensive snaps in that span, but the two sides split ways ahead of Week 4. In Baltimore, Gardner-Johnson will give the Ravens an experienced veteran in their injury-riddled secondary.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson: Let go by Houston
The Texans released Gardner-Johnson on Tuesday, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
The move comes despite Gardner-Johnson playing at least 94 percent of the Texans' defensive snaps in each of the first three games of the regular season, during which he accumulated 15 tackles (11 solo). Gardner-Johnson will explore his next options and should garner interest from teams looking to solidify their depth at safety. M.J. Stewart is a candidate to start at safety alongside Calen Bullock following Gardner-Johnson's release.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters Monday that Gardner-Johnson (knee) is on track to play in Houston's Week 1 matchup against the Rams, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Gardner-Johnson sustained a knee injury in early August that was initially feared to be serious, but it now appears he'll be ready for the Texans' regular-season opener Sunday. The Florida product is expected to serve as the starting free safety in his first season with Houston after posting 59 total tackles and 12 passes defended, including six interceptions, across 16 regular-season games with the Eagles in 2024.

Texans' C.J. Gardner-Johnson: Could be ready for Week 1
Further tests on Gardner-Johnson's knee didn't reveal significant damage, and there is optimism that he could be available for the Texans' regular-season opener against the Rams on Sept. 7, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Gardner-Johnson was carted off the field during Thursday's practice after suffering a knee injury. Tests did not reveal any ACL damage, and it appears the 2019 fourth-rounder has avoided a serious injury. Gardner-Johnson will not play in any of the Texans' preseason games while he works on being fully healthy for Week 1. With Gardner-Johnson, Jimmie Ward (foot) and Jaylen Reed (leg) sidelined, M.J. Stewart and Russ Yeast will have an opportunity to work with the first-team defense at safety alongside Calen Bullock.

There have been conflicting reports about the nature of Gardner-Johnson's injury, as it was originally stated that his ACL was torn. He'll undergo further evaluation to determine the exact nature of the damage, but he will likely be sidelined for an extensive period regardless of the exact diagnosis.

Gardner-Johnson was carted off the field with a right leg injury in practice Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Gardner-Johnson was injured while tackling wide receiver John Metchie. The severity of the injury is unknown, but the 27-year-old is undergoing an MRI to learn more. The seventh-year pro was traded to Houston in March and was expected to start at free safety.
