Chiefs' Gardner Minshew: Set to start rest of season
Minshew will start at quarterback the remainder of the 2025 campaign for Kansas City after an MRI confirmed Monday that Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending ACL tear in his left knee during Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Chargers.
Minshew entered Sunday's contest with 1:53 remaining in the fourth quarter, completing three of five throws for 22 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception in what amounted to his first pass attempts of the season. The veteran signal-caller will close out the Chiefs' final three games under center, with matchups looming on the road in Tennessee in Week 16, at home versus Denver in Week 17 and on the road in Las Vegas in Week 18. Minshew is playing out the season on a one-year contract, so if he's able to impress down the stretch it could improve his chances of re-signing with Kansas City. Across 10 appearances with the Raiders in 2024, Minshew completed 203 of 306 pass attempts for 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Chiefs' Gardner Minshew: Replaces injured Mahomes in loss
Minshew entered Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Chargers for an injured Patrick Mahomes (knee) with 1:53 remaining and completed three of five passes for 22 yards with no touchdowns and an interception.
After Mahomes suffered an injury near the right sideline on an incomplete pass on the first play following the two-minute warning, Minshew was summoned for emergency duty in his first taste of regular-season action in 2025. Minshew proceeded to keep the Chiefs' last-gasp drive alive with completions of 11 and eight yards to Travis Kelce and a three-yard connection to Rashee Rice. However, the veteran signal-caller eventually hung the ball up on his fifth pass attempt, and Derwin James cut underneath Kelce to grab the interception and officially eliminate Kansas City from postseason contention in the process. With Mahomes set to undergo an MRI, per Adam Schefter of ESPN, and head coach Andy Reid not expressing optimism about the severity of the injury, Minshew appears likely to serve as the Chiefs' starting quarterback over the final three games of the regular season.
