Top Anton Watson News

  • Lakers' Anton Watson: Inks deal with LAL

Watson agreed to a training camp contract with the Lakers on Saturday, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.

Watson will compete for a spot on Los Angeles' regular-season roster, and the club still has an open two-way slot. The 24-year-old forward spent most of last season on a two-way deal with the Celtics before being waived and subsequently claimed by the Knicks in March. Over 37 G League appearances with the Maine Celtics in the 2024-25 season, he averaged 12.1 points and 5.1 rebounds across 29.9 minutes per game.

  • Knicks' Anton Watson: Scores 21 to close Summer League

Watson totaled 21 points (8-13 FG, 5-8 3Pt), six rebounds and three assists over 24 minutes in Saturday's 94-85 Summer League loss to the Wizards.

Watson paced the Knicks with 21 points in their Summer League finale Saturday. He spent the majority of the 2024-25 campaign in the G League, suiting up for both the Maine Celtics and Westchester Knicks.

  • Knicks' Anton Watson: Sees limited run in rookie year

Watson finished the 2024-25 campaign with averages of 0.9 points and 0.3 rebounds across 2.4 minutes per game in nine regular-season outings with New York.

The rookie second-round pick began his career on a two-way contract with the Celtics, but he was waived in March and subsequently claimed by the Knicks. He never logged more than four minutes with New York. However, the 24-year-old forward averaged 12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steals across 29.9 minutes per game in 37 G League appearances with the Maine Celtics. He's set to become a restricted free agent this offseason.

  • Knicks' Anton Watson: Scooped up off waivers

The Knicks claimed Watson off waivers from the Celtics on Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

Watson will be on a two-way deal with New York for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign. The 2024 second-round pick didn't see any action at the NBA level with Boston but appeared in 37 games with the G League's Maine Celtics, averaging 12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.8 three-pointers and 1.0 steals in 29.9 minutes per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the field.

  • Anton Watson: Cut loose by Boston

The Celtics waived Watson on Sunday, Taylor Snow of the Celtics' official site reports.

The No. 54 selection in the 2024 NBA Draft, Watson signed a two-way deal with the Celtics in August but didn't appear in a single game at the NBA level before being cut loose. Watson had been highly involved in the G League and averaged 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.8 three-pointers and 1.0 steals across 29.9 minutes per game with the Maine Celtics, but the organization evidently wasn't convinced that the 24-year-old forward was worth keeping around for the long haul.

  • Celtics' Anton Watson: Absent from injury report

Watson (thigh) was not listed on the Celtics' injury report for Tuesday's game against the Raptors.

Watson had been working through a left adductor strain that had forced him to be sidelined for Boston's last two games. Watson's return won't have any impact on the Celtics' rotation, however, as the rookie second-rounder has yet to appear in an NBA regular-season game.

  • Celtics' Anton Watson: Another absence coming

Watson (adductor) won't play in Sunday's game versus the Pacers, Jay King of The Athletic reports.

Watson will miss his second straight game Sunday due to a left adductor strain. His next chance to suit up is Tuesday's matchup with Toronto.

  • Celtics' Anton Watson: Sits Friday with adductor strain

Watson was ruled out ahead of Friday's 142-105 win over the Pacers due to a left adductor strain.

The rookie second-round pick out of Gonzaga is on a two-way deal with the Celtics and has yet to make his NBA debut, so his absence Friday had no effect on head coach Joe Mazzulla's rotation. Once healthy, Watson will presumably link back up with the G League's Maine Celtics.

  • Celtics' Anton Watson: Inks two-way deal

The Celtics signed Watson to a two-way contract Friday.

Watson was drafted by the Celtics in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft after spending five years at Gonzaga. The rookie forward is now set to split time between the Celtics and their G League affiliate in 2024-25.

  • Celtics' Anton Watson: Selected No. 54 by Boston

The Celtics selected Watson with the No. 54 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft on Thursday.

Watson fit into a lot of different roles at Gonzaga during his five years with the Bulldogs, and he ended his final season with averages of 14.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per contest on 57.8 percent shooting from the floor. However, he converted just 65.3 percent of his free throw attempts and went 21-of-51 from distance, so he'll need to work on expanding his range to stay relevant at the NBA level. Considering he's joining a loaded Boston team that will be looking to repeat for another championship, Watson's playing opportunities will be scarce and he'll likely spend a lot of the season with their G League affiliate in Maine.
