Hawks' Trae Young: Looks good despite loss
Young recorded nine points (3-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), eight assists, two rebounds and three turnovers in 18 minutes of Monday's 122-113 preseason loss to the Rockets.
Young has reportedly been disappointed in not signing an extension with the Hawks over the offseason, but he was all business Monday. He's under contract for one more season, but he has a player option worth $48.9 million for the 2026-27 campaign. After that, Young could potentially hit the open market in 2027. With that in mind, this is setting up to be a pivotal season for both Young and Atlanta.

Hawks' Jalen Johnson: Notches 11 points in loss
Johnson logged 11 points (5-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 0-1 FT), two rebounds, two steals and two blocks across 17 minutes of Monday's 122-113 preseason loss to Houston.
Johnson was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his left shoulder back on Jan. 29 and went on to miss the rest of the 2024-25 regular season, and this was his first taste of live action since then. He's been a full go at training camp and has no restrictions to speak of, and he seemed to pick up right where he left off. Along with Trae Young, the Hawks are expected to run a ton of offense through Johnson this season.

Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Looks sharp off bench
Okongwu produced 11 points (4-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, one assist and one steal across 18 minutes of Monday's 122-113 preseason loss to Houston.
Kristaps Porzingis drew the start next to Jalen Johnson, but he played a minimal workload of 15 minutes with five points to show for it. The Hawks have stressed all offseason that Okongwu and Porzingis will both be heavily involved. Starting lineups likely aren't set in stone yet, and the franchise may experiment throughout the preseason.

Hawks' Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Paces Atlanta in preseason loss
Alexander-Walker totaled 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-6 3Pt), three assists, one rebound and one steal over 19 minutes in Monday's 122-113 preseason loss to the Rockets.
Alexander-Walker impressed in his Hawks debut, leading the team in scoring while knocking down three triples with efficiency. The versatile wing signed a four-year, $62 million deal this offseason and projects as both a key contributor and glue guy for an Atlanta squad aiming to take a step forward and make noise in the postseason.

Hawks' Kristaps Porzingis: Looks rusty in preseason debut
Porzingis finished with five points (2-6 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 1-4 FT), one assist, one steal and one turnover across 12 minutes in Monday's preseason loss to Houston.
Porzingis also racked up five fouls in his 12 minutes of play, but it is probably futile to read too much into Atlanta's preseason opener. However, it's worth noting that midway through the match, he was sporting some tape on his right wrist that he wasn't wearing at the beginning of the game. The potential injury is worth monitoring, considering Porzingis' injury history.

Hawks' Eli John Ndiaye: Logs three minutes in preseason
Ndiaye (wrist) contributed two points (1-1 FG) over three minutes in Monday's 122-113 preseason loss to the Rockets.
Ndiaye saw limited action in the Hawks' preseason opener, converting his lone shot attempt. While his minutes were minimal, his participation was an encouraging sign for his health after he missed all but one Summer League game with a wrist injury.

Hawks' Nikola Durisic: Logs eight minutes off the bench
Durisic saw eight minutes off the bench during Monday's preseason loss to the Rockets and finished with eight points (2-2 FG, 3-3 FT) and one assist.
Durisic sat out Atlanta's Summer League finale back in July with some minor injuries, but the hip and calf issues were never expected to linger into training camp. He'll be fine for Opening Night.

Hawks' Jacob Toppin: Logs 12 minutes Monday
Toppin (hip) tallied four points (1-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-4 FT) and two assists across 12 minutes in Monday's 122-113 preseason loss to the Rockets.
After missing the Hawks' final two Summer League games due to a hip injury, Toppin returned to game action. The 25-year-old signed a two-way contract with the Hawks in July. He appeared in 23 G League outings between the College Park Skyhawks and Westchester Knicks in 2024-25, averaging 22.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists across 36.6 minutes per game. He'll likely spend most of the 2025-26 campaign with the Skyhawks.

Hawks' N'Faly Dante: Grabs 10 rebounds
Dante (ankle) tallied no points (0-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist and one block over 13 minutes in Monday's 122-113 preseason loss to the Rockets.
Dante didn't score but made his presence felt on the glass, grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds to open the preseason. The Oregon product suffered a left ankle sprain July 14 during Summer League play with the Rockets before signing with the Hawks on Aug. 19, but his participation Monday suggests the injury is no longer lingering.

Hawks' Zaccharie Risacher: Gets starting nod Monday
Risacher is in the starting lineup for Monday's preseason game against the Rockets, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
Risacher will start in the Hawks' preseason opener after opening 73 of 75 regular-season games as a rookie last year, when he averaged 12.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 24.6 minutes per contest. The 20-year-old will line up alongside offseason addition Kristaps Porzingis in the frontcourt, sending Onyeka Okongwu to the bench.

Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Coming off bench Monday
Okongwu will come off the bench in Monday's preseason game against the Rockets, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
Okongwu finished the 2024-25 campaign as a mainstay in the starting five, though he'll come off the bench in Monday's preseason opener. Over 74 regular-season appearances (40 starts) last season, the 24-year-old center averaged 13.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.9 blocks across 27.9 minutes per game.

Hawks' Kristaps Porzingis: Illness issues might be over
Porzingis dealt with a mysterious illness while with the Celtics, but he hasn't had any issues since he returned to action with Latvia during EuroBasket, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
Porzingis was traded to the Hawks on June 24. He'll get a fresh start after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign with Boston. The veteran big man played in 42 regular-season games last season, averaging 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 blocks per game, shooting 48.3 percent from the field and a career-high 41.2 percent from deep.

Hawks' Jalen Johnson: Fully healthy for camp
Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh said Friday that Johnson (shoulder) is fully healthy and will be ready for training camp, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Johnson was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his left shoulder back on Jan. 29 and went on to miss the rest of the 2024-25 regular season. Before the injury, he was in the midst of a breakout with averages of 18.9 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.2 three-pointers and 1.0 blocks in 35.7 minutes per game. Even with the addition of Kristaps Porzingis, Johnson and Trae Young are expected to be the primary offensive weapons for the Hawks in 2025-26.

Hawks' Lamont Butler: Lands Exhibit 10 deal with Atlanta
Butler (ankle) signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Hawks on Wednesday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
The undrafted rookie intended to sign a two-way deal with Atlanta following the NBA Draft, though he didn't appear in any Las Vegas Summer League games for the Hawks while recovering from an ankle injury. Butler will now have to test his mettle in training camp for a chance to seize a two-way roster spot. The sharpshooter averaged 11.4 points in 26.0 minutes per game while shooting 49.8 percent from the field and a career-high 39.1 percent shooting from three-point distance over 27 appearances for Kentucky last year.

Hawks' Malik Williams: Lands Exhibit 10 deal with Atlanta
Williams signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Hawks on Wednesday, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Williams will now have the opportunity to claim a two-way roster spot at Hawks training camp this fall. The 27-year-old big man played 31 regular-season games for the G League's Sioux Falls Skyforce a year ago, finishing with impressive averages of 16.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks in 27.3 minutes per contest.

Hawks' Charles Bassey: Signs with Atlanta
The Hawks signed Bassey on Wednesday, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
Bassey is now in line to serve as frontcourt depth behind Onyeka Okongwu and Mouhamed Gueye for the Hawks in 2025-26. That said, Bassey is not a guarantee to open the new season with a stable role off the bench. Last year for the Spurs, the 2021 second-rounder averaged 4.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 10.4 minutes per game across 36 regular-season appearances.
