Top Rockies News

  • Rockies' Jose Quintana: Yields two runs in 2026 debut

Quintana came away with the no-decision in the Rockies' 4-3 loss to the Marlins on Sunday. He allowed two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two across 4.1 innings.

Quintana gave up a run in each of the first two innings of Sunday's start. He managed to keep the Marlins off the board the rest of the way but was not in line for the win after being lifted with one out in the fifth, finishing his day with nine whiffs on 78 pitches (42 strikes). Quintana inked a one-year deal with the Rockies in February after pitching for the Brewers in 2025, when he posted an 11-7 record across 24 regular-season starts with a 3.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 89:50 K:BB across 131.2 innings. His next start is tentatively slated for next weekend at home against the Phillies.

  • Rockies' Jordan Beck: Drives in three runs Sunday

Beck went 1-for-4 with a three-run double during Sunday's 4-3 loss to Miami.

Beck provided the Rockies all of their runs in the first inning with a bases-clearing, three-run double to left field off Max Meyer. Beck has gone 2-for-7 with four RBI and a walk over his first two games of the regular season. He's looking to improve on his 2025 campaign, when he posted a .733 OPS with 19 steals (on 27 attempts), five triples, 16 home runs and 53 RBI across 587 plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Victor Vodnik: Blows save in first outing of 2026

Vodnik (0-1) blew his save opportunity and took the loss against the Marlins on Sunday. He allowed two runs on three hits while striking out one across one inning.

Vodnik got the call to the mound for the eighth inning with two outs and two on, and he managed to get out of the frame unscathed despite hitting Connor Norby with a pitch to load the bases. Vodnik was brought back out for the ninth, and after getting the first two batters out thanks to a double play, he yielded a double to Javier Sanoja before giving up a walk-off, two-run homer to Owen Caissie. Vodnik was named the Rockies' closer despite a rocky performance in spring training; however, more outings like Sunday's could lead to Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer turning to Juan Mejia to close things out instead of Vodnik.

  • Rockies' Edouard Julien: Exiting lineup Sunday

Julien is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Julien had served as the Rockies' designated hitter in the team's first two games of the season, going 1-for-5 with a double. Though he should have a fairly clear path to at-bats while Mickey Moniak (finger) is on the shelf, Julien will be the odd man out of the lineup Sunday while Hunter Goodman gets a day off from catching but sticks in the starting nine at DH.

  • Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Swipes first bag of 2026

Doyle went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base Saturday against the Marlins.

Doyle didn't have a remarkable day at the plate, and he's now 0-for-7 in his first two games of the season. However, he did manage a free pass in the second inning, and he also went on to steal second base -- his first swiped bag of the campaign. Doyle has hit seventh for each of Colorado's first two contests, though he does appear to have an everyday role.

  • Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: First homer of 2026

Tovar went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Saturday against the Marlins.

Tovar pulled an offering from Eury Perez over the left field fence in the fourth inning for his first home run of the season. He's hit cleanup in each of Colorado's first two games, collecting two hits in eight plate appearances.

  • Rockies' T.J. Rumfield: Hits first career homer

Rumfield went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins.

Rumfield opened the scoring with a 423-foot blast off Eury Perez in the second inning. The rookie has now recorded a hit in each of his first two major-league games after slashing an impressive .286/.359/.554 over 64 plate appearances this spring. He offers some sleeper appeal with Coors Field as his home venue.

  • Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Labors in no-decision

Lorenzen did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

Lorenzen entered the fifth inning with a two-run lead but couldn't get out of the frame, exiting at 93 pitches after giving up a two-run homer to Liam Hicks. The 33-year-old signed a one-year, $8 million deal in January and should hold a secure spot in the rotation on a lowly Rockies club. He lines up for a tough home matchup against the Phillies next weekend.

  • Rockies' Jordan Beck: Resting Saturday

Beck isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Marlins.

Beck will retreat to the bench Saturday after going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk during a loss in Friday's season opener. Troy Johnston will replace him as Colorado's right fielder while batting sixth.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Inefficient in Friday's loss

Freeland (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Rockies fell 2-1 to the Marlins, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two.

The veteran southpaw limited the damage against him, but Freeland needed 81 pitches (53 strikes) to record 13 outs before getting lifted. Freeland's been a fairly reliable innings eater for Colorado, averaging 27 starts and about 145.1 innings over the last five seasons, but his 4.82 ERA and 1.43 WHIP during that time aren't just a product of calling Coors Field home. He lines up to make his next start on the road next week against the Blue Jays.

  • Rockies' Edouard Julien: Starting at DH in opener

Julien will start at designated hitter and bat eighth in Friday's opener in Miami.

The placement of Mickey Moniak (finger) on the 10-day injured list will free up some at-bats at DH and in the outfield for the Rockies. Julien will get the first crack at DH, though the spot is likely to be a revolving door. The 26-year-old was acquired from the Twins over the offseason.

  • Rockies' Braxton Fulford: Summoned from minors

The Rockies recalled Fulford from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

He's taking the roster spot vacated by Mickey Moniak (finger). Fulford was beaten out by Brett Sullivan for the No. 2 catcher job in Colorado but will wind up making the Opening Day roster after all. With three catchers available, the Rockies could give Hunter Goodman more time at designated hitter while Moniak is shelved.

  • Rockies' Mickey Moniak: Lands on IL with sprained finger

The Rockies placed Moniak (finger) on the 10-day injured list Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Moniak injured his right ring finger Monday during an exhibition game while diving back into first base, and subsequent testing revealed a sprain. He will be eligible for activation April 3 -- which is the date of the Rockies' home opener -- but it's unclear whether he has a chance to return by then. Braxton Fulford will fill Moniak's spot on the roster.

  • Rockies' RJ Petit: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Rockies transferred Petit (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Petit will miss the entire 2026 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery with an internal brace on his right elbow last week. Valente Bellozo was selected to the 40-man roster and optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Valente Bellozo: Added to 40-man roster

The Rockies selected Bellozo's contract Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Bellozo didn't make the cut for Colorado's Opening Day roster after giving up 11 earned runs in 15.2 Cactus League innings, but he will claim a spot on the team's 40-man roster. The 26-year-old right-hander owns a 4.20 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through 150 innings in his big-league career and could earn a spot in the Rockies' poor starting rotation if he returns to form in Triple-A. RJ Petit (elbow) was placed on the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.
