Penta and Tiffany Stratton are in control of their own destinies after winning their respective Money in the Bank ladder matches on Saturday in New Orleans.
Stratton won her ladder match earlier in the night, making her the first two-time women's Money in the Bank winner. The last time she won the briefcase, in 2024, she successfully cashed in on her then-friend Nia Jax to win the WWE women's championship.
Penta made good on his own opportunity, outlasting five other men in a wild match that saw memorable moments such as Je'Von Evans being launched through the roof of an ambulance by Bron Breakker. Penta recently took world heavyweight champion Roman Reigns to the limit in Mexico City and certainly will be looking for the right opportunity to take another shot at the champ.
Reigns was successful in his own match, picking up a win over LA Knight to retain his championship. One title did change hands, however, with Liv Morgan beating Stephanie Vaquer and Becky Lynch to regain the women's world championship.
CBS Sports was with you the whole way through the event, providing updates and highlights as the action goes down in the live blog below.
Roman Reigns outlasts LA Knight to retain the world heavyweight championship
Reigns grabbed a headlock, but Knight fought out early, flipped Reigns the bird, locked in his own headlock, and knocked the champion from the ring. The action continued to go back and forth a bit, but Knight continued to get the better of short exchanges, even delivering a 10-count of punches in the corner. Reigns responded with 10 clotheslines in the corner and a big boot. Reigns missed his first Superman punch attempt of the match, eating some big strikes from Knight in response. Knight again knocked Reigns from the ring and continued his assault at ringside. Knight cleared off the commentary desk, but that allowed Reigns to turn the tables, driving Knight into the ring post. Reigns kept up the pressure, bashing Knight around the ring and even causing a bleeding knot to form on Knight's forehead.
Knight stormed back with a flurry of offense, leading to the first pin attempt of the match, which saw Reigns kick out. Reigns hit a Superman punch for his own two-count. Reigns attempted to follow up with a spear, but Knight moved, and Reigns crashed into the ring post. Knight hit his leaping superplex shortly after and hit a burning hammer for a near fall. Reigns came right back with a urinage as big moves were coming at a much quicker pace. Knight landed a BFT out of nowhere after a Superman punch, but Reigns kicked out at two. Knight tried to set up for his own spear but ran right into one from Reigns for yet another near fall. Knight did hit his own spear shortly after. Knight followed Reigns out of the ring but ran right into another Superman punch, but Knight moved out of the way of a spear, sending Reigns crashing through the ringside barricade. Knight powerbombed Reigns through the commentary desk, though not before a botch where he failed to execute the move. A top-rope elbow drop got a two-count for Knight, but Reigns countered the BFT, hit a pair of Superman punches and then hit a spear for the finish in a match that felt like it tried to do a little bit more than was needed. Roman Reigns def. LA Knight via pinfall to retain the world heavyweight championship – Grade: B
946 attacks The Bloodline
After Reigns' win over Knight, a brawl between 946 and The Bloodline in the concourse. The two teams brawled through stairwells and out into various parts of the arena, throwing punches and using various trash cans and other foreign objects. The brawl then went out into the street. The 946 eventually jumped in a car and sped away.
Tiffany Stratton becomes a two-time Money in the Bank winner
Lash Legend's power allowed her to run things early on, but Sol Ruca was able to flip out of the way of a Legend attack. Legend smashed Roxanne Perez into the barricade before several women ended up gathered around a ladder outside the ring. Tiffany Stratton attempted to leap onto four of the women, but she came up short and hit the back of her head on the floor hard. Jacy Jayne was the lone woman not in the mix and attempted to set up a ladder, but Stratton (apparently not injured from the fall) ran into the ring to cut things off. Lola Vice and Perez battled in the ring before Perez used a stepladder as a weapon. Legend cut off Perez's run before Ruca dropkicked a ladder into Legend's face. Big moves and ladder shots continued to flow from all six women, including Vice battling with Perez over a ladder until Vice inexplicably stood and waited for Perez to jump on the ladder and smash it into her face.
Ruca and Stratton were on opposite sides of the ladder when Jayne pushed the ladder over, leaving Ruca hanging from the briefcase, where she eventually dropped onto the crowd below. Legend and Ruca were the next two to race up the ladder, and Ruca tried a sunset flip bomb that Legend was able to avoid, but Ruca did manage to hit a frogsplash through a ladder that was suspended between the ring and the commentary desk. Jayne tried to race up the ladder but was caught in a rear-naked choke by Vice and both fell off the ladder, onto another suspended on the ropes, which then slid to the outside, with both women narrowly avoiding injury. Perez hit Pop Rox on Stratton and tried to retrieve the briefcase, but was caught by Ruca. Ruca then hit Perez with a Sol Snatcher off the ladder before being powerbombed by Legend. Stratton then cut Legend off on the ladder. Stratton hit Legend with the briefcase (after Legend realized she needed to step up another rung or two for the shots to connect), knocking Legend from the ladder. Stratton then retrieved the briefcase to win the match. This was just clunky and overly choreographed to the point where nothing felt spontaneous. Add in several awkward moments, and it was a Money in the Bank match to forget. Tiffany Stratton won Money in the Bank -- Grade: C-
Oba Femi survives a Tsunami to take out Bronson Reed
Reed couldn't get anything going against Femi early in the match, with Femi shrugging off shoulder blocks and clotheslines before tossing Reed with a suplex. Reed eventually built some momentum by dropping Femi on the ring apron and hitting a suicide dive to the outside of the ring. Reed hit a trio of running sentons for a near fall. Reed continued attacking Femi's back, but Femi eventually battled back to his feet, where he drove several elbows into Reed before a big boot. Reed countered a slam into landing his own body on Femi and then hit another senton. Reed went up top for a Tsunami, but Femi rolled away from the corner.
Femi rolled out of the way of another Tsunami attempt. After several running European uppercuts from Femi, Reed attempted to counter but instead ate a spinebuster for another near fall. Austin Theory then ran in to ringside to cause a distraction and Logan Paul attempted to slide in the ring with a chair but was ejected from ringside. Maxxine Dupri then gave Reed brass knuckles and Reed delivered a pair of punches before hitting a Tsunami, but Femi kicked out of the subsequent pin attempt. Reed hit a Jagged Edge, but missed a moonsault. Femi chokeslamed Theory, then tossed Reed before a Fall From Grace to win the match. Femi probably should be running through a guy like Reed with relative ease, but that's not how Saturday played out, with Femi instead needing to be pushed to the brink. Still, this was a solid enough big man match and the right man won. Oba Femi def. Bronson Reed via pinfall -- Grade: B
Liv Morgan walks away from triple threat with the women's world championship
Stephanie Vaquer dropped Morgan just after the bell rang, at least starting the match one-on-one with Becky Lynch. Morgan made her way back into the ring but was immediately taken down by Vaquer, who tried to execute The Devil's Kiss, but Lynch intervened. Vaquer then prevented Morgan from hitting Oblivion on Lynch. As Lynch and Morgan were battling outside the ring, Vaquer dove onto both women, only for Morgan to powerbomb Lynch off the apron seconds later. Morgan became the first woman to really grab control of the match after that powerbomb, taking the fight to Vaquer. Vaquer finally cut off Morgan's extended run and executed a Devil's Kiss in the process.
Vaquer went on an extended run of offense, including dropping Lynch onto a downed Morgan in the corner. Lynch fought out of Vaquer's grasp for an exploder suplex and then hit a double DDT for a near fall on both opponents. The action spilled outside the ring, where Lynch and Vaquer teamed up to suplex Morgan before arguing over where to set up a table, allowing Morgan to take out both women. Momentum continued to swing from woman to woman to woman. Morgan and Vaquer traded half-crabs and then Morgan joined in to apply an armbar to Morgan, only to begin arguing with Vaquer over who needed to let go of their hold. That led to an exchange of headbutts between Lynch and Vaquer. Lynch hit Morgan with a Manhandle Slam, but Vaquer broke up the pin. After the action spilled outside the ring yet again, Vaquer hit meteoras on both women as they were against the ring steps. Vaquer eventually kicked Lynch off the apron onto the table that was set up at ringside earlier in the match. Vaquer then turned around into Oblivion as Morgan won the match. Another match where things got a bit clunky at times, but it was otherwise perfectly fine. Liv Morgan def. Becky Lynch and Stephanie Vaquer via pinfall to win the title -- Grade: B
Penta wins wild match to claim Money in the Bank briefcase
Shortly after the start of the match, Lil Yachty helped Trick Williams get a ladder into the ring, but CM Punk hit a dive onto Williams before he could use it. Kevin Owens was clearly hunting Punk early, though he took some time to deliver shots to Bron Breakker and Je'Von Evans in the process. Penta got into the mix with a big dive on Punk. Breakker started to make his mark on the match with German suplexes on Penta and Evans before tossing Williams onto the top rope. Punk and Owens mixed it up for a moment before Owens dropped Punk onto a ladder. Penta tried to hit Punk with a Penta Driver, but Breakker turned the move into a double German Suplex. Owens cut Punk off as Punk was climbing the ladder, smashing Punk's knee into the ladder in the process.
Breakker was a dominant force throughout the middle section of the match, including a run atop the ringside barricade to hit a diving clothesline. Owens swept Breakker off the commentary desk before brawling with Punk again. Evans was running around the ring for a big move, but ran right into a spear from Breakker. Punk hit Breakker with a side Russian leg sweep off the ladder as Evans was placed on a stretcher at ringside. The camera cut to Evans being placed in an ambulance, where he was taken from the arena. Owens tried to powerbomb Punk onto a ladder, but Punk turned it into a backdrop that sent Owens onto the ladder crotch first. Penta hit Punk with a Penta Driver, but Breakker stopped Penta from climbing the ladder. Lil Yachty distracted Breakker, allowing Williams to hit Breakker with a Book End, but Owens hit Williams with a stunner, and did the same to Yachty.
Owens climbed the ladder, but Punk caught his leg. The two climbed opposite sides of the ladder, but Penta caught Punk after Punk knocked Owens to the canvas. Punk hit Penta with a Go To Sleep and climbed the ladder again, but Owens dug into his eye. Punk then pulled Owens off the ladder and set for a Go To Sleep, but Breakker speared Punk and then Owens. Breakker speared Penta outside the ring and then speared Williams. Breakker then ran around the ring to spear Punk and Owens through the barricade. The ambulance then drove to ringside, where Evans was revealed as the driver. Evans then attacked Breakker, beating him down with punches before taking out Penta and Williams, culminating in an OG Cutter on Williams. Evans set up a giant ladder in the center of the ring, though it took him forever to get it set. Before Evans could climb it, he was caught by Breakker. Evans took Breakker out with a kick and climbed the giant ladder, though it was set up nowhere near the briefcase. This led to Breakker shoving the ladder over and sending Evans through the roof of the ambulance.
Penta hit Breakker with a Mexican destroyer off of one ladder and onto another. Left alone in the ring, Penta climbed the ladder and grabbed the briefcase to win the match. The match was good overall and had the right winner, but the ambulance bit was completely unnecessary and comes off as corny, given that it makes no sense for an ambulance's roof to shatter like thin plywood. Cut all of that out and the whole thing would be much better, but WWE seems determined to lean on weird stunt stuff right now. Penta wins Money in the Bank -- Grade: B-
