John Cena will wrestle his last match at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event on Dec. 13. The honor of facing the star before his retirement had to be earned. WWE superstars battled in The Last Time is Now Tournament, with Gunther earning the right to be Cena's final opponent in Washington, D.C.

The Last Time is Now Tournament competition began on the Nov. 10 episode of Monday Night Raw and concluded on the Dec. 5 episode of SmackDown, leading into the fifth and final Saturday Night's Main Event of 2025.

Sixteen superstars from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT competed for the unique opportunity to show Cena the door. Former world heavyweight champion Gunther and LA Knight fought their way to the finals, with "The Ring General" winning the whole thing. 

The tournament featured several twists and turns along the way. Two surprise entrants from Cena's past competed in the tournament. Zack Ryder returned for a one-off match on SmackDown, and Dolph Ziggler received a warm ovation for his match on Raw. The Miz lost his opening round match against Uso, but snuck back into the tournament after Sheamus pulled out with an injury.
