SEC women's basketball tournament 2026: Texas dominates South Carolina to capture first SEC tournament title
The Gamecocks had won the last three SEC tournaments and nine of the last 11

Texas won its first ever SEC tournament trophy on Sunday with a dominant 78-61 win over South Carolina. It was a good week for the Longhorns as they likely also locked in a No. 1 seed for the NCAA tournament.
The program joined the SEC in 2024, but they have quickly become one of the top teams in conference.
"We are here. We belong in the SEC too," Madison Booker, who had a team-high 18 points, said in her postgame interview. "We are here to play, we are here to win."
The Longhorns set the tone early on Sunday with a 14-0 run. The Gamecocks, who had won three consecutive trophies, played from behind the entire game. South Carolina is still in a good position ahead of the Big Dance as they are also one of the projected No. 1 seeds.
The SEC Women's Basketball Tournament tipped off on Wednesday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. Dawn Staley's South Carolina Gamecocks were the No. 1 overall seed.
The top four seeds all got byes to the quarterfinals. South Carolina, LSU and Texas all cruised to the semifinals. Vanderbilt, meanwhile, likely lost its chance at earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Vandy was upset by Ole Miss on Friday in the quarterfinals. The Commodores made a late comeback, but they trailed by 32 points at halftime.
In the semifinals on Saturday, Ole Miss fought hard, but ultimately the Rebels' run came to an end against an inspired Texas squad, and South Carolina beat LSU for the 19th time in a row, despite LSU leading at halftime.

Earlier in the tournament, Tennessee crashed out of the conference tournament on Thursday night, falling to Ole Miss. The Vols have now lost seven games in a row and are scuffling as they head into the NCAA Tournament, but it seems like Kim Caldwell's job will be safe. CBS Sports bracketologist Connor Groel projected Tennessee as a No. 7 seed in the Big Dance entering this week, but they could slip to an 8 or 9 seed after their latest defeat.
