WATCH: Wings' Paige Bueckers sets franchise's single-season rookie assist record
Bueckers is eighth in the league in assists per game at 5.4

Paige Bueckers' historic rookie season continued Friday when she set the Dallas Wings' single-season rookie assist record during her team's 97-96 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. Bueckers, who finished with 29 points, four reobunds and five assists, had a shot to win the game at the buzzer, but it did not go down.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Bueckers entered Friday with 141 assists and needed just two to pass Odyssey Sims' record of 142 set in 2014 when the franchise was known as the Tulsa Shock. It didn't take long for Bueckers to take care of business.
In the middle of the first quarter, Bueckers ran a little hand-off that turned into a pick-and-roll with Myisha Hines-Allen. Both defenders jumped to Bueckers, who calmly hit her veteran forward with a pocket pass that turned into a layup.

Bueckers' versatile offensive game is one of the primary reasons she was the first pick in the spring, and she's been as advertised during her rookie season.

Following Friday night's contest, she is averaging 18.8 points and 5.4 assists, good for seventh and eight in the league, respectively. In WNBA history, only 10 other players have averaged at least 18 points and five assists for a season, and Caitlin Clark is the only other one to do so as a rookie.
Bueckers' 146 assists are tied for the 14th most by a rookie all-time. With 10 games remaining in the season, she will certainly climb higher on that list. She's only seven assists behind Jackie Young for a spot in the top-10, and 31 behind Dawn Staley for a spot in the top-five.
In addition to her assist record, Bueckers also reached 500 career points on Friday, becoming the 22nd rookie to accomplish that feat. No one in Wings franchise history has gotten to 500 points faster than Bueckers, who needed just 27 games to hit the milestone.
Despite Bueckers' impressive rookie campaign, the Wings are stuck in 12th place at 9-25 and are heading toward a second consecutive lottery appearance.
