It was an easy 3-0 win for France against Sweden in their opening match of the knockout stages. The side led by Didier Deschamps dominated once again thanks to the goals scored by Bradley Barcola and the brace of Kylian Mbappe, who scored his fifth and sixth goals of the tournament, reaching 18 itotal in the World Cup. only one less than Lionel Messi's current record. Les Blues gradually took control in the first half, with Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise causing constant problems to their rivals. Mbappe thought he had opened the scoring early on, only for VAR to rule the goal out for offside, before striking the post as France's pressure increased, but it was just a matter of time.
The breakthrough finally arrived moments before halftime as Ousmane Dembele found Mbappe following a corner, and the Real Madrid forward raced into the area before calmly finishing for his fifth goal of the tournament. His emotional celebration with Didier Deschamps underlined the significance of the moment after an eventful week off the pitch, as the French coach missed the latest match against Norway as he flew back to Europe after the death of his mother.
France picked up where they left off after the break, and Michael Olise produced another moment of brilliance to set up Barcola for the second goal, before Olise turned provider again for Mbappe, who wrapped up the win with his sixth goal of the World Cup. Olise was once again crucial, as he has already delivered five assists so far in the tournament, including the two in today's game against Sweden.
Mbappe's brace also moved the France captain onto 18 career World Cup goals, leaving him just one behind Lionel Messi's tournament record. Deschamps' team will now meet Paraguay at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on July 4 at 5 p.m. ET.

This pace is set to double the previous record of 3,587,538 fans, which was also set in the United States during the 1994 World Cup. Matches have had an average attendance of 64,511, which is 99.7% of stadium capacity. Despite high ticket prices, people can feel World Cup fever and are showing up at the end of the day to see these games in person, as we have another packed house of 80,677 on hand to see France face Sweden.

35' This match has burst into life! Olise came within inches of scoring one of the goals of the World Cup with a spectacular bicycle kick, only to be denied by the post. Seconds later, Barcola had another golden opportunity but couldn't find the net. France are knocking on the door after two huge chances in quick succession.
32' Mbappe as convinced he had scored! France are growing into the game at a rapid pace, with Barcola causing all sorts of problems down the right side of the attack. His cross found Mbappe in a promising position, but the striker could only hit the post. He should have done better.

Mbappe thought he had given France the lead, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside. Sweden, meanwhile, have finally begun to threaten at the other end, forcing their first shot on target of the match.
20' As France struggle to find space inside the box, both Lucas Digne and Kylian Mbappé have tried their luck from distance, while Bradley Barcola made a surging run into the area but couldn't find the back of the net. Still 0-0 but France are improving.
15' Graham Potter seemed to have prepared well this game from a tactical standpoint as the Swedish team is currently defending pretty well against such as strong side. The only question now is how long they can sustain this and maintain this level of attention.
