Player Outlook
The Buccaneers DST is worth drafting with a late-round pick in the majority of leagues as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option. Tampa Bay added pass rusher Haason Reddick this offseason, and the Buccaneers already have standout playmakers in Vita Vea, Lavonte David, and Antoine Winfield Jr. In 2024, Tampa Bay tied for second in the NFL in sacks (46) and was second in fumble recoveries (11). The Buccaneers also added seven interceptions and had two DST touchdowns. The Buccaneers DST is a great Fantasy option to wait for on draft day in all leagues.

  • Anthony Walker: Working out for former team

Walker (knee) has a workout scheduled with the Colts on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Walker was released with a non-football injury designation by the Buccaneers on Monday but is healthy enough a few days later to work out for Indianapolis, where he played from 2017 through 2020 prior to joining Cleveland for three years and Miami for one. Tampa Bay had expressed interest in adding Walker to its practice squad if he doesn't join a 53-man roster elsewhere.

  • Buccaneers' Kaevon Merriweather: Stands out in preseason finale

Merriweather recorded six tackles (all solo) and a quarterback hit in the Buccaneers' 23-19 preseason loss to the Bills on Saturday night. The third-year pro was second in tackles on the night while playing all 67 snaps from scrimmage, wrapping up a productive preseason where he recorded 10 stops across two games. Merriweather saw an increase in involvement in his second NFL campaign last season, and he projects to serve as Tykee Smith's primary back up at free safety heading into the 2025 season.

  • Desmond Watson: Let go by Tampa Bay

Watson was waived with a non-football illnes designation by the Buccaneers on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Watson spent the entirety of Tampa Bay's training camp on the active/non-football illness list. The defensive tackle entered camp at nearly 450 pounds, and it was made clear that he needed to shed some weight before he could practice with the team. Watson will look to continue his weight loss journey in an attempt to secure another opportunity elsewhere, though he could stick around with the Buccaneers' practice squad.

  • Nick Jackson: Getting cut

Tampa Bay cut Jackson on Monday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Jackson led the Buccaneers in tackles over their three preseason games, but it wasn't enough to make their final 53-man roster for 2025. He'll be free to sign with any team, but there's also a chance he ends up back with Tampa Bay's practice squad.

  • Anthony Walker: Released by Tampa Bay

The Bucs released Walker (knee) with a non-football injury designation Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Walker didn't practice at all during training camp, as he spent the entirety of the summer on the active/PUP list recovering from a knee injury. The Bucs didn't feel like Walker would be able to contribute in Week 1, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports, but the team has interest in signing him to the practice squad if he doesn't land a job elsewhere.

The Buccaneers waived Avery on Sunday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Avery will head to waivers despite having just signed with the team on Friday. • Buccaneers' Christian Izien: Status for Week 1 uncertain

Coach Todd Bowles said Tuesday that Izien's oblique injury could linger into the regular season, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Izien was injured in this past Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers, and it's safe to assume he won't be available for Saturday's preseason finale versus Buffalo. Izien has a little less than three weeks to get ready for Week 1. Kaevon Merriweather would be next in line for playing time at safety if Izien needs to miss time.

  • Buccaneers' Antoine Winfield: Deemed healthy

Winfield (leg) participated in practice Tuesday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Winfield missed some practice time last week and has yet to play in the preseason. • Buccaneers' J.J. Roberts: Lands on IR, as expected

Tampa Bay placed Roberts (knee) on injured reserve Monday, Scott Smith of the team's official website reports. Roberts hurt his knee last Thursday during a joint practice with the Steelers and will miss the entire 2025 campaign. The Marshall product went unselected in April's NFL Draft but had been impressing during training camp and had a legitimate chance of making the roster prior to getting hurt.

  • Buccaneers' J.J. Roberts: Done for 2025

Roberts will be placed on injured reserve due to a season-ending knee injury, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Roberts injured his knee during special-teams drills in Thursday's joint practice against the Steelers. Further tests revealed that the injury is severe enough to keep the undrafted free agent sidelined for the entire 2025 season, and he'll focus toward being healthy for 2026.

  • Buccaneers' J.J. Roberts: Suffers knee injury

Roberts left Thursday's joint practice with the Steelers after suffering a knee injury during special-teams drills, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. • Buccaneers' Antoine Winfield: Not practicing

Winfield (leg) did not practice Wednesday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Head coach Todd Bowles didn't specify if Winfield's injury will cause him to miss more time. The 26-year-old is coming off a season where he only appeared in nine regular-season games due to knee and ankle injuries, but has been a full participant in training camp so far. He's entering the second year of his four-year, $84.1 million contract extension.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Braswell: Solid output in preseason debut

Braswell recorded four tackles (two solo) in the Buccaneers' 29-7 preseason win over the Titans on Saturday night. The 2024 second-round pick has had some eyes on him this summer, as he dropped weight in an effort to gain quickness and it seemed to translate well to the practice field in early camp practices. Braswell carried the momentum over into his first taste of game action, finishing tied for third in tackles on the night for the Buccaneers while playing on 31 snaps (54 percent). Braswell figures in for a rotational role once again in his second season, but if he can continue displaying an improved feel for coach Todd Bowles' scheme, he should be in line for a boost on the 308 defensive snaps he logged across 17 regular-season games as a rookie.

  • Buccaneers' Jacob Parrish: Active in preseason opener

Parrish, who recorded a solo tackle and defensed two passes in the Buccaneers' 29-7 preseason win over the Titans on Saturday night, stood out with his sticky coverage during the contest, Brianna Dix of the team's official site reports. The rookie third-round pick has seemingly been wowing since first stepping on the practice field this spring, and it was encouraging to see Parrish carry over the momentum into his first taste of game action in an NFL setting. Parrish got off to a strong start by knocking down the first pass that went in his direction, and he then flashed his closing speed by breaking on a corner route by Elic Ayomanor and deflecting the ball as it arrived. Dix reports Parrish looked smooth in coverage while also impressing with change-of-direction skills and his constant knack for making plays on the ball. Parrish won't have to wait long to continue testing his mettle against unfamiliar competition, as the Buccaneers and Steelers will engage in joint practices later in the week before Saturday's preseason clash.

  • Buccaneers' Nick Jackson: Standout performance Saturday

Jackson recorded six tackles (all solo), including 1.0 sacks and an additional tackle for loss, along with an interception in the Buccaneers' 29-7 preseason win over the Titans on Saturday night. Jackson recorded a team-high tackle total and was disruptive throughout the night, even becoming the first Buccaneers player since 2017 to record an interception and a sack in the same preseason game. The undrafted rookie from Iowa's standout effort wasn't necessarily surprising, considering he finished his six-year college career with 555 total tackles, including 17.0 sacks, 19 defensed passes, including one interception, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Brianna Dix of the team's official site reports head coach Todd Bowles saw Jackson delivering the caliber of performance he'd already proven capable of since first hitting the practice field. "A football player from the time he came in here," said Bowles. "We were playing close attention to him. He knows how to play the game, he's very instinctive, he can read things, he's physical when he needs to be physical and he knows how to cover."

The Buccaneers waived Banks (undisclosed) from IR on Friday with an injury settlement, per the NFL's official transaction long. The safety went undrafted out of Mississippi State in 2024 and is still looking for a chance to make his regular-season debut.

  • Buccaneers' Jamel Dean: Disrupting offense in camp

Dean, who's once again projected for the starting left cornerback role this season, recorded two interceptions during Wednesday's training camp practice, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports. Dean picked off backup Connor Bazelak but got Baker Mayfield as well, cutting in front of the latter's red-zone pass intended for rookie first-round pick Emeka Egbuka. The veteran cornerback's previously troublesome knee appears to be back to full health, leaving Dean poised to potentially bounce back from back-to-back injury-hampered seasons where he's suited up for just 25 of a possible 34 regular-season contests.

  • Buccaneers' Benjamin Morrison: Not practicing

Morrison (hamstring) was held out of practice Wednesday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Morrison tweaked his hamstring at practice Tuesday, causing him to be sidelined Wednesday. The injury bug has been following him around, as the 2025 second-round pick had season-ending hip surgery last year at Notre Dame. He has stood out in training camp so far and has a real shot to play a valuable rotational role in the Buccaneers' secondary this season.
