  • Chargers' Scott Matlock: Won't play Week 6

Matlock has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins due to a personal matter. Matlock is the only active fullback on the Chargers' roster, so offensive coordinator Greg Roman could deploy tight ends Tucker Fisk, Tyler Conklin and rookie fifth-rounder Oronde Gadsden in the backfield to serve as additional blockers. Matlock's next opportunity to play is Week 7 against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 19.

  • Chargers' Da'Shawn Hand: Moved to injured reserve

The Chargers placed Hand (groin) on injured reserve Saturday. Hand suffered a groin injury during the Chargers' Week 5 loss to the Commanders. He was unable to practice this past week, and the injury is severe enough for the 2018 fourth-rounder to go on injured reserve. Hand will be required to miss at least the next four games, making Week 10 against the Steelers on Sunday, Nov. 9 the earliest he can return. Justin Eboigbe, Naquan Jones and Otito Ogbonnia should all see additional work at defensive end while Hand is on IR.

  • Chargers' Tuli Tuipulotu: Silent in Sunday's loss

Tuipulotu did not record any stats in 48 defensive snaps and two special teams snaps during Sunday's 27-10 loss versus the Commanders. Fresh off a game against the Giants in which he piled up four sacks, Tuipulotu was invisible in Week 5, failing to record a tackle for the first time this season. He'll look to bounce back in a Week 6 matchup against a pass-happy Miami team.

  • Ravens' Alohi Gilman: Acquired by Baltimore

The Ravens acquired Gilman and a 2026 fifth-round pick from the Chargers in exchange for Odafe Oweh and a 2027 seventh-round pick Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The 1-4 Ravens have been churning the roster on defense a bit Tuesday, first signing veteran C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the practice squad before acquiring Gilman from Los Angeles. Gilman was a sixth-round pick by the Chargers in 2020 and has appeared in 73 career regular-season games, making 39 starts. He's started 30 games over the last three seasons, including the first five of 2025 for Los Angeles. On 87 percent of the defensive snaps this season, Gilman has recorded 22 tackles (11 solo) and three pass breakups. With Kyle Hamilton nursing a groin injury, Gilman could start immediately alongside first-round rookie safety Malaki Starks.

Hand went to the locker room in the first half after sustaining a groin injury on defense, and he will be evaluated by medical staff to determine whether he can return to Sunday's game. With Naquan Jones (coach's decision) inactive, Scott Matlock should see a significant increase in snaps at defensive end opposite Otito Ogbonnia for as long as Hand is out of the game.

  • Chargers' Troy Dye: Steps up against Giants

Dye recorded 13 tackles (three solo) in Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Giants. Dye has been filling in for the injured Denzel Perryman (ankle) as the primary inside linebacker opposite Daiyan Henley. Dye had been underwhelming in the role, managing only 11 combined stops in the first three games of the season. That changed in Sunday's loss, and he should be in for a heavy snap count once again in Week 5 against Washington.
