Player Outlook
Los Angeles' defense gave them just enough of a boost to help them advance one round in the playoffs, but they're not close to being one of the NFL's most dominant units. Case in point, the DST finished 23rd in Fantasy points in 2024 even though they scored 11-plus points in each of their final three meaningful regular-season games. Fantasy managers shouldn't feel obligated to roll with the Rams in Week 1 versus Houston, but they might do so just to have them on the roster for what appears to be a favorable matchup Week 2 at Tennessee. By Week 3, they'll be off of everyone's teams, though.

Forbes (hamstring) participated in Thursday's joint practice with the Saints, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports. He was cleared to return to practice earlier this week, and head coach Sean McVay told reporters after Thursday's session that "[Forbes] got about 50 percent of the snaps today, which was in alignment with the plan." Forbes was claimed off waivers by the Rams in December after being let go by the Commanders, and the 2023 first-rounder is competing for a rotational spot at outside corner behind Ahkello Witherspoon and Darious Williams.

  • Rams' Jared Verse: Avoids serious injury

Verse posted on his personal X account that he was "fine" after leaving Thursday's practice due to a knee injury, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports. Verse had to be helped off the field after bumping his knee with teammate Braden Fiske. There's optimism from Verse that he has avoided a serious injury, but he'll likely be held out of practices and not play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Cowboys. Verse made an instant impact with the Rams in 2024 and won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after posting 66 tackles (36 solo), including 4.5 sacks, two pass defenses, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries across 17 regular-season games. He added 2.0 sacks in the Rams' loss to the Eagles in the NFC Divisional Round.

  • Rams' Kobie Turner: Labeled week-to-week by coach

Turner (back) is considered week-to-week, head coach Sean McVay revealed Thursday, Greg Beachum of The Associated Press reports. • Rams' Jared Verse: Bangs knee with teammate

Verse was assisted off the field by trainers Thursday after bumping his knee with teammate Braden Fiske, Gary Klein of the Los Angles Times reports. • Rams' Chris Paul: Back on practice field

Paul returned to practice Saturday, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports. Paul had been sidelined with a calf injury since late July, an unfortunate absence for the rookie. Nevertheless, he should have a chance to prove himself in the next few weeks of practice to gain a rotational role in the Rams' linebacker corps.

  • Rams' Nate Landman: Nursing calf injury

Landman left Saturday's training camp practice due to a calf injury, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports. The severity of the injury was downplayed by head coach Sean McVay, so it doesn't appear to be a serious issue for Landman. He signed a one-year contract with the Rams in March and is slated to start at inside linebacker alongside Omar Speights. The Rams' first preseason game takes place Saturday against the Cowboys, and if Landman is unable to play, Troy Reeder and Chris Paul would be the top candidates to operate with the first-team defense.

  • Rams' Kobie Turner: Dealing with back injury

Turner did not participate in Saturday's practice due to a back injury, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports. Turner has been an integral part of the Rams' defensive front over his first two NFL campaigns and has recorded 17.0 sacks while playing in every single regular-season game over that span. He's currently working through a back issue, and given that it's training camp, he'll likely be limited to sideline work until he's fully recovered from the injury. That could mean that Turner is held out of the Rams' preseason opener against the Cowboys on Saturday. Ty Hamilton and Desjuan Johnson should see more work with the first-team defense opposite Braden Fiske while Turner is out, with Larrell Murchison, Jack Heflin and Decarius Hawthorne also in line to see additional practice reps.

Reeder appears to be behind both Nate Landman and Omar Speights on the Rams' depth chart at inside linebacker during training camp, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports. Reeder started the first six games of the season in 2024 and served as an every-down linebacker for Los Angeles, but he injured his hamstring in Week 7 and missed the remainder of the campaign. After the Rams signed Nate Landman to a one-year deal this offseason, it appears Los Angeles is rolling with an inside linebacker duo of Landman and Omar Speights.

  • Rams' Omar Speights: Standing out at camp

Rams coach Sean McVay singled out Speights on Thursday as someone who has been "outstanding" during training camp, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports. "You can see he's really taken leaps in his second year," McVay continued. "He has really good ownership of what we're trying to get done." It's been evident at Rams camp that Speights and Nate Landman will be the team's starting inside linebackers. Los Angeles signed Speights as an undrafted free agent out of LSU last year, and he went on to appear in all 17 regular-season contests, making 10 starts.

Landman has been operating as a starting linebacker at the Rams' camp this summer, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports. Landman signed a one-year deal with the Rams this offseason after making 23 starts for the Falcons over the previous two seasons. He recorded 191 tackles (105 solo), including 2.0 sacks, six forced fumbles and four pass breakups from 2023-24 with Atlanta.

Forbes has struggled to maintain a regular role in the secondary with both the Commanders and Rams since being selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He is expected to serve in a depth role with Los Angeles in 2025, and this injury doesn't look likely to affect his regular-season availability.
