  • Za'Darius Smith: Hangs up cleats

Smith announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports. The 33-year-old edge rusher from Kentucky signed with the Eagles in early September and tallied 10 total tackles, including 1.5 sacks, over the team's last five games. However, he's since decided to call it a career. Smith, an 11-year NFL veteran, spent time with the Ravens, Packers, Vikings, Browns, Lions and Eagles throughout his career, recording 70.5 sacks and 11 forced fumbles over 145 regular-season appearances. He made three Pro Bowls from 2019 to 2022 and received second-team All-Pro honors in 2020 with the Packers. With Smith retiring Monday, Azeez Ojulari is likely to play a larger role on Philadelphia's defense moving forward.

  • Eagles' Nakobe Dean: Limited role in season debut

Dean played six snaps on special teams in Thursday's 34-17 loss to the Giants. Dean made his season debut after recovering from a torn left patellar tendon. The Eagles seemingly eased him into action, and he should eventually return to at least a partial role alongside fellow linebackers Zack Baun and rookie Jihaad Campbell.

  • Eagles' Jordan Davis: Logs second sack

Davis recorded six tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks, in Thursday's 34-17 loss to the Giants. Davis matched his season high of six tackles, though only two were solo. He also notched his second sack of the campaign at the end of the first quarter, helping to stall a Giants possession. Davis is on pace for the best season of his career, and he stepped up in the absence of Jalen Carter (heel) in Thursday's loss.

  • Eagles' Cooper DeJean: Quiet against Giants

DeJean recorded two tackles (none solo) in Thursday's 34-17 loss to the Giants. DeJean failed to log a 100 percent snap rate for the first team this season, though that was likely due to game script. It wasn't his finest performance, marking his lowest tackle total since Week 15 of the 2024 campaign.

  • Eagles' Andrew Mukuba: Tallies seven stops

Mukuba recorded seven tackles (three solo) with one pass defensed in Thursday's 34-17 loss to the Giants. Mukuba led the Eagles' defense with 66 defensive snaps, a 96 percent clip. That was enough for him to log a season-high seven tackles, although only three were solo. Mukuba should have the chance to make an increased impact as his rookie season continues.

  • Eagles' Jihaad Campbell: Maintains starting role

Campbell recorded seven tackles (four solo) in Thursday's 34-17 loss to the Giants. Campbell has maintained a consistent role in the middle of the Eagles' defense, though there was some question of how much the return of Nakobe Dean would change his outlook. Campbell was on the field for exactly 90 percent of defensive snaps, while Dean played exclusively on special teams. That snap allocation could change as Dean gets back into game shape, but Campbell has had a strong start to his rookie season and should remain a big part of Philadelphia's defense regardless.

  • Eagles' Zack Baun: Disappointing showing in Week 6

Baun logged six tackles (three solo) in Thursday's 34-17 loss to the Giants. Baun was on the field for 94 percent of defensive snaps, the first time this season he wasn't on the field for every play. It was also his least productive performance of the season in what was poor all-around showing from the Eagles.

Carter (heel) is listed as questionable ahead of Thursday night's matchup against the Giants. The 24-year-old popped up on the Eagles' injury report Wednesday as a limited practice participant due to a heel issue, leaving his status for Thursday night's divisional matchup up in the air. Carter played through a heel injury in the Week 5 loss to the Broncos, recording four total tackles across 66 defensive snaps. However, if the issue worsened and he's unable to suit up in Week 6, Za'Darius Smith would likely see increased work with the Eagles' first-team defensive line.
