Player Outlook
The Jets DST is no longer a must-draft unit and should be considered a low-end starting DST or perhaps only a streamer in good matchups, which could be as early as Week 1 against the Steelers and ex-Jets QB Aaron Rodgers. The Jets recorded only seven interceptions in 2024 and lost edge rusher Haason Reddick and cornerback D.J. Reed, among others. Noteworthy additions include defensive backs Andre Cisco and Brandon Stephens. In order to be a useful DST, they may need young pass rusher Jermaine Johnson to regain his form after tearing his Achilles in Week 2 of last season. This is not a unit you should reach for in drafts.

The Jets released Weaver (undisclosed) with an injury settlement Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. • Jets' Sauce Gardner: Expected to be fine for Week 1

Coach Aaron Glenn said Monday that Gardner (calf) is on track to play Week 1 against the Steelers on Sept. 7, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. The soon-to-be 25-year-old (Aug. 31) is hoping to return to his All-Pro form after landing a massive extension from the Jets this summer. Gardner won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022 and was named a first-team All-Pro each of his first two seasons before his play slipped some in 2024.

  • Jamin Davis: Let go by Jets

The Jets released Davis on Sunday. Davis re-signed with the team in March but was unable to earn a spot on the final roster. The 2021 first-round pick racked up 18 tackles (12 solo) across nine games with both the Vikings and Commanders last season and will now look to catch on with a new team.

  • Chiefs' Derrick Nnadi: Going back to KC

The Jets traded Nnadi to the Chiefs on Sunday in exchange for a conditional 2027 draft-pick swap, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Nnadi spent his first seven NFL campaigns with Kansas City before signing with the Jets in March. However, the Florida State product won't end up playing in a regular-season game for New York; instead, he'll continue his career with the only squad he's suited for as a pro. Nnadi doesn't rack up fantasy-relevant stats as an IDP, but he's been incredibly durable, playing in all 17 regular-season contests each of the past four years. He'll likely work in a rotational role with the Chiefs as he did last season, though his snap count may decrease after the team brought in a pair of defensive tackles in rookie Omarr Norman-Lott (ankle) and veteran Jerry Tillery.
