The Jaguars DST was among the worst Fantasy options in 2024 and should not be trusted coming into the season. We do not recommend drafting the Jaguars DST in most formats, but the unit could be a waiver wire addition in deeper leagues if things improve in dramatic fashion. Last year, the Jacksonville defense managed just 34 sacks, six interceptions and three fumbles, which was awful. We're hopeful the pass rush will improve with Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Alen, but we need to see the Jacksonville defense play better before Fantasy managers can trust the Jaguars DST. At best, you can add the Jaguars DST off waivers during the year.

  • Zech McPhearson: Released from IR

McPhearson (undisclosed) was released from injured reserve after reaching an injury settlement with the Jaguars on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The cornerback will need to pass a physical to join a new team, but he is now eligible to play again in 2025.

  • Jaguars' Khalen Saunders: Dealt to Jacksonville

The Saints traded Saunders to the Jaguars on Sunday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Saunders appeared in Sunday's preseason contest against Jacksonville, which ultimately ended in a tie and failed to record a stat in the game. He will now join the Jaguars' roster ahead of the 2025 campaign, likely slotting in as a top reserve option at defensive tackle behind Arik Armstead (back). It's unclear what New Orleans got in return for Saunders, but he'll now look to build off of a 2024 campaign in which he compiled 43 total tackles (18 solo), including 2.0 sacks, while also adding three passes defensed, one of which was an interception, over 13 regular-season contests.

  • Jaguars' Arik Armstead: Won't play Sunday

Armstead (back) will not play in Sunday's preseason game against the Saints. Armstead isn't expected to play in the preseason while he works through a back injury, which is severe enough for him to be in jeopardy of missing the Jaguars' regular-season opener against the Panthers on Sunday, Sept. 7. With Armstead and Maason Smith both not playing, Austin Johnson, Jordan Jefferson and Tyler Lacy are the top candidates to get snaps at defensive tackle with the first-team defensive next to DaVon Hamilton.

  • Jaguars' Zech McPhearson: Lands on injured reserve

The Jaguars placed McPhearson (undisclosed) on the injured reserve list Wednesday. McPhearson is dealing with an unspecified injury, and by going on IR, he'll be forced to miss the entire 2025 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the Jaguars. The 2021 fourth-rounder played 30 snaps (23 on defense, seven on special teams) and logged three tackles (two solo) during the Jaguars' preseason loss to the Steelers on Saturday. McPhearson has not played in an NFL regular-season game since 2022 with the Eagles, when he logged 14 tackles (12 solo), including 1.0 sacks, and one pass defense across 17 games.

  • Levi Wallace: Injury settlement reached

The Jaguars waived Wallace (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Wednesday, per the NFL's transaction log. Wallace was set to miss the entire 2025 season after reverting to the Jaguars' injured reserve, but the injury settlement allows the Alabama product to sign with a team once he's fully healthy. He appeared in 13 regular-season games (two starts) for the Broncos in 2024 and posted 28 tackles (20 solo) and two pass defenses before being released by Denver in late December.

  • Jaguars' Arik Armstead: Dealing with back injury

Armstead's back injury could be considered serious, as there are questions on whether the veteran will be ready for Week 1, Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union reports. Armstead was originally considered to be taking a "veteran start" to training camp as he missed practice Friday, but it appears the veteran's back injury continues to linger. Though the 31-year-old is still considered day-to-day, Jaguars' head coach, Liam Coen, is unsure if Armstead will be ready for Week 1. Coen isn't concerned about the veteran defensive tackle's extended absence, saying, "He's a veteran who, ultimately, he'll probably know how to get himself ready to go."

  • Jaguars' Arik Armstead: Dealing with back issue

Armstead missed practice with back soreness Friday and is considered day-to-day, Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union reports. It doesn't sound like Armstead is tending to anything too serious, and it would make sense if Jacksonville just wanted to give the veteran some extra rest. Until he's back up to full speed, 2024 fourth-rounder Jordan Jefferson could get some time with the starters on the interior of the defensive line.

Brown (leg) will miss the rest of training camp, Mia O'Brien of 1010 XL 92.5 FM Jacksonville reports. The 25-year-old had the most productive season of his career in 2024, appearing in all 17 regular-season games while drawing 10 starts and recording his first career interception. It is still unclear whether this injury will linger into the regular season, but it will impact Brown's opportunities for the time being since he was competing for a starting role in Jacksonville's secondary.

  • Jaguars' Maason Smith: Precautionary placement on PUP

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen told reporters Wednesday that Smith's (undisclosed) placement on the active/PUP list was cautionary, Mia O'Brien of 1010 XL 92.5 FM Jacksonville reports. The Jaguars haven't disclosed the exact nature of Smith's injury. However, it appears the 2024 second-round pick's injury isn't serious, which should open the door for him to participate in training camp and the preseason. Smith saw his snap count grow in the latter part of his rookie campaign, and he registered 12 tackles (six solo), including 2.0 sacks, and two pass defenses across the last six games of the 2024 regular season.

Across 15 regular-season appearances in 2024, Miller racked up 80 tackles (53 solo), three pass breakups and one fumble, though his role declined notably after Jacksonville's bye in Week 12. He now faces competition from rookie fourth-round pick Jack Kiser for reps alongside standout linebackers Foyesade Oluokun and Devin Lloyd.

  • Jaguars' Devin Lloyd: Option not exercised

The Jaguars won't exercise Lloyd's fifth-year option, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. The 2022 first-round pick out of Utah has been one of the Jaguars' top tacklers over the past three seasons, ranking second on the team with 355 total tackles across 48 regular-season contests. Lloyd has also been been a valuable asset in coverage, recording 19 passes defended, including three interceptions, since entering the league. Despite the team declining his fifth-year option, Lloyd is expected to remain one of Jacksonville's top inside linebackers in 2025, likely starting alongside Foyesade Oluokun.
