Player Outlook
The Bengals were a middle-of-the-pack unit in Fantasy in 2024 and we do not expect much more in 2025. They did spend a first-round pick on Shemar Stewart and added Demetrius Knight one round later, but that is not enough to move the needle for their Fantasy ranking, especially if they can't get Trey Hendrickson's contract dispute resolved. The one thing that might change your mind is that they open the season against the Cleveland Browns. If you are really into streaming defenses, they might not be a bad choice for Week 1. Then again, I would feel much better about it if Joe Flacco doesn't win the starting job for the Browns.

  • Taven Bryan: Fails to crack 53-man roster

The Bengals released Bryan on Monday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. Bryan spent the two prior seasons with the Colts, where he served in a rotational role at defensive tackle. He signed with the Bengals before the start of training camp and finished the preseason with seven tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks, across three games. Bryan will explore his next opportunities and will look to catch on with a team in need of depth in the interior defensive line.

  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: Reaches deal with Bengals

Hendrickson and the Bengals have reached an agreement that will land him a $14 million raise this year, which boosts his 2025 salary to $30 million, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Hendrickson still is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2025 season. The 30-year-old defensive end is coming off back-to-back 17.5-sack campaigns, so having the talented 2017 third-rounder on board out of the gate this year provides the Bengals' pass rush with a major boost.

  • Bengals' DJ Turner: Sidelined for past week

Turner (undisclosed) has missed the past week of practice and isn't practicing Thursday, Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Turner seems unlikely to suit up for Saturday's preseason finale against the Dolphins. Cincinnati's next game after that is the Sept. 7 regular-season opener against the Browns. Turner's expected to start at cornerback when healthy. The 2023 second-round pick has appeared in 28 regular-season games (18 starts) over his first two NFL seasons.

  • Bengals' Marco Wilson: Gets involved in preseason win

Wilson (undisclosed) recorded one tackle (one solo) during Monday's 31-17 preseason win at Washington. Wilson played 29 snaps on defense and six snaps on special teams, though his notable role didn't translate to much in the box score. He figures to fill a rotational role at cornerback behind Cam Taylor-Britt, DJ Turner and Dax Hill once the regular season starts.

  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: Might be close to a deal

Hendrickson and the Bengals have reached agreement on the years and total value of a new contract, but they remain apart in terms of the guaranteed money, per Laura Rutledge of ESPN. On Sunday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that Cincinnati was listening to trade offers for Hendrickson since contract talks had stalled. Hendrickson led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in 2024 and recorded the same amount the year before. If he stays with the Bengals, he will be depended on to lead a defense that struggled last season.

  • Bengals' Shemar Stewart: Drawing raves in camp

Stewart is earning praise from the Bengals' coaching staff with his play in training camp, while lining up at multiple positions on the defensive line, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. Stewart has changed the narrative from first-round pick holdout and the object of scorn to one that's turning heads on a daily basis. "... whatever your opinion was of Shemar, that player is rare," defensive coordinator Al Golden said. "Coming out of the draft, somebody that can come off the edge, one play, play in the B gap, two plays later, play in the C gap, set the edge, do multiple things. It's just rare."

  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: On trading block

The Bengals are listening to trade offers for Hendrickson after recent contract talks between the two sides reached an impasse, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Hendrickson has been searching for a contract extension throughout the entire offseason after logging 17.5 sacks in each of the last two seasons. He reported for training camp in late July after initially holding out but did not participate in practices as contract negotiations with the Bengals continued. Those talks seem to have stalled again, and it's gotten to the point that the Bengals now are open to moving on from the 2017 third-round pick. NFL reporter Jordan Schultz relays that the Panthers, Browns and Colts are among teams that have expressed interest in trading for Hendrickson.

  • Bengals' Dax Hill: Playing vs. Washington

Hill (knee) will be available for Monday's preseason game against the Commanders, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. Hill appears to have fully recovered from a torn ACL that he suffered in October of 2024. He was sidelined for the Bengals' preseason opener against the Eagles, but he has been given the green light to play in Cincinnati's second exhibition contest. The 2022 first-rounder will play a key role in the Bengals' secondary alongside Cam Taylor-Britt, DJ Turner, Jordan Battle and Geno Stone.

  • Bengals' Geno Stone: Back at practice

Stone (undisclosed) is participating in Friday's practice, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. Stone has already been ruled out for Cincinnati's second preseason game, and that doesn't figure to change despite his return to practice. As he enters the final season of his two-year, $14 million contract, Stone remains positioned to reprise a starting role at safety, making it the Bengals' priority that he enters Week 1 at 100 percent health.

  • Bengals' B.J. Hill: Still not practicing

Hill (foot) is not participating in Sunday's practice, Jay Morrison of SI.com reports. Hill has been limited since the start of training camp due to what was initially labeled a precautionary foot injury. He didn't suit up for Cincinnati's preseason opener, and it remains to be seen whether he'll be available for the team's second preseason clash on Monday, Aug. 18 against the Commanders.

  • Bengals' Geno Stone: Dealing with soft tissue injury

Stone is considered week-to-week due to a soft tissue injury and has been ruled out for the Bengals' second preseason game against the Commanders on Monday, Aug. 18, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. Stone played just four defensive snaps during the Bengals' preseason loss to the Eagles on Thursday, and that may have been due to his injury. Given that it's training camp, Stone could also miss the Bengals' preseason finale against the Colts on Saturday, Aug. 23 in order to avoid aggravating the injury. If that were to be the case, Stone will aim to be fully healthy for Week 1 against the Colts. In the meantime, Tycen Anderson and Daijahn Anthony are the top candidates to work with the first-team defense at safety alongside Jordan Battle.

  • Bengals' Cameron Sample: Back from Achilles tear

Sample (Achilles) notched one solo tackle in Thursday's 34-27 preseason loss to the Eagles. Sample didn't suit up in the 2024 regular season after tearing his left Achilles that preseason, but he's back in action for the preseason in 2025. The 2021 fourth-round draft pick is competing for a depth role as a pass rusher.

  • Bengals' Dax Hill: Out for first preseason game

Hill (knee) won't play in the first preseason game against Philadelphia Thursday, Jay Morrison of SI.com reports. While on track to play Week 1 after tearing his ACL last October, the Bengals are being cautious with their starting slot cornerback. Hill has been fully participating in team drills the past two weeks, which is a great sign for a pass defense that struggled the majority of the last season. The 24-year-old is hoping to regain the form he had in 2023, where he started all 17 games and recorded two interceptions.

  • Bengals' Cedric Johnson: Dealing with calf injury

Johnson was wearing a protective boot on his left foot Saturday as he deals with a left calf strain, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. Johnson was also using a scooter to get around the locker room, so it appears he's not close to be ready to practice. The 23-year-old played in nine regular-season games as a rookie last year, compiling seven tackles, including 1.0 sacks. He's competing for a depth role heading into his second NFL campaign.

  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: In line to report to camp Wednesday

Hendrickson (contract dispute) intends to report to Bengals training camp Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Last Tuesday, Hendrickson officially began a holdout as Cincinnati kicked off training camp, getting placed on the reserve/did not report list one day later. Assuming he shows up this Wednesday, his holdout is expected to turn into a hold-in as he seeks a contract extension, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The intent appears to be to kickstart talks between his representatives and the Bengals as he seeks to join fellow AFC North pass rushers Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt in receiving lucrative new deals.

  • Bengals' Dax Hill: Increasing reps

Hill (knee) was a full participant in Monday's practice, Charlie Clifford of WLWT NBC-5 Cincinnati reports. Hill was cleared to return to team drills last week, and the 2022 first-rounder got a heavy workload during Monday's session. He looks to be fully recovered from a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 5 of last season, and he is on track to play in the Bengals' regular-season opener against the Browns on Sept. 7.

  • Dolphins' Mike Hilton: Another CB heads to Miami

Hilton signed with the Dolphins on Saturday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports. Hilton is the third cornerback the Dolphins signed this week, following Cornell Armstrong and Jack Jones. With eight years in the NFL, Hilton will look to solidify a secondary that has glaring question marks regarding age and starting experience. However, this deal is most notable after starting slot cornerback Kader Kohou exited Saturday's practice with a right leg injury. Hilton typically plays in the slot and could immediately handle a starting role if Kohou misses time.

  • Bengals' Shemar Stewart: Puts end to contract dispute

The Bengals agreed to terms with Stewart on a four-year, $18.97 million contract Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Stewart went 17th overall to Cincinnati back in April's draft, but he didn't participate in the offseason program and then didn't report to training camp when Bengals rookies were expected to do so this past Saturday due to a dispute over language in his contract. With the saga now over, the team remains without star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson at camp due to a holdout concerning his quest for a lucrative contract extension, meaning Stewart could be in line for top-line reps in the not too distant future.
