Titans vs. Chiefs score: Tennessee blows out slumping Kansas City as Patrick Mahomes exits game in fourth
Tennessee won its third straight game in Week 7
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans recorded their second straight statement win on a short week, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Nashville 27-3. This matchup was decided in the first half, as Ryan Tannehill and the offense jumped out to a 27-0 lead. The Titans did not punt at all in the first two quarters, while Patrick Mahomes turned the ball over twice. The Chiefs recorded just 67 yards of total offense in the first half, and were buried before they even realized what was going on.
A storyline coming into this matchup was the Titans' depleted secondary. Their best cornerback Kristian Fulton is on IR, first-round pick Caleb Farley tore his ACL and then safety Amani Hooker and reserve cornerback Chris Jackson were inactive with injuries. While they were undermanned, they allowed just 41 passing yards in the first half. It was Kansas City's secondary that struggled mightily on Sunday, as it seemingly couldn't stop anything. Derrick Henry threw a touchdown on a trick play on the first drive of the game and A.J. Brown toasted the secondary all afternoon, finishing with a stat line of eight catches for 133 yards and one touchdown.
Mahomes was inaccurate all game long. He completed 20 of 35 passes for 206 yards, one interception and also lost a fumble. The former NFL MVP left the game early in the fourth quarter due to a head injury, but this was by far his worst performance of the season.
The resiliency of this Titans team has been on full display over the past two weeks. Despite the injuries and inconsistencies, the Titans have found a way to upset two of the best teams in the AFC. The Titans were considered to be a top contender in the conference entering the regular season, and they have now officially reentered the conversation.
Henne in at QB. At this point we don't know if that's because Mahomes is concussed or just because this is a blowout.
Mahomes very slow to get up. I think he's concussed.
Mahomes hasn't been right all game. Just overthrew an open receiver downfield by 7 yards.
"Henry" chants out in full force in Nissan Stadium. Henry trying to quiet the crowd.
4th and 21 down 24 points entering the fourth quarter. Tough call, I'm not sure what I would do here.
Penalties have absolutely killed KC. That's eight now for the Chiefs. Derailed last drive and maybe this one as well.
It took some time but the Chiefs got a defensive stand! Great anticipation by Gay, who read Tannehill's eyes all the way for the interception. A quick KC touchdown could make things interesting.
Good to see Darrynton Evans get some touches. He's supposed to be Tennessee's receiving back but has struggled to stay on the field due to injury.
