NFL preseason week 2 scores, highlights, takeaways: Giants' Jaxson Dart continues to impress

We are in the thick of Week 2 of the preseason after a doubleheader on Friday and a full slate of games on Saturday, with more to come on Sunday and Monday.

Titans-Falcons and Chiefs-Seahawks got things rolling to begin the week, and Saturday's action was filled to the brim with storylines that'll have ramifications for the start of the regular season. That included a continued quarterback battle in Indy between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, along with Cleveland Browns third-round pick Dillon Gabriel making his debut.

Let's take a look at some of the key takeaways from the early slate.

Jaxson Dart continues to impress

The New York Giants rookie quarterback was sharp again on Saturday night.

After a strong performance last week against the Buffalo Bills in his preseason debut, Dart proved to be a big storyline in Week 2 of the preseason.

The rookie accounted for two touchdowns against the New York Jets on Saturday, one throwing and one running on a quarterback sneak. He finished 14 of 16, including 13 straight completions at one point, for 137 yards and has impressed this preseason. Dart has shown a good command of the offense and has been making the right decisions and getting the ball out quickly.

Dillon Gabriel has up-and-down showing

After missing the preseason opener due to a hamstring injury, it was Gabriel's turn to try and endear himself to the coaching staff as Cleveland still figures out its quarterback masthead. The third-rounder out of Oregon was efficient, completing 13 of his 18 passes for 143 yards on the afternoon. However, he also battled turnovers. Gabriel threw a pick-6 and then was credited with a fumble on a botched handoff. Those turnovers don't exactly put him in the best light as he tries to make a case to climb the depth chart.

Daniel Jones slightly better than Anthony Richardson

The Indianapolis Colts are still trying to figure out their Week 1 quarterback, and the battle between Jones and Richardson continued in Week 2 of the preseason. We have a deeper dive into how each signal-caller fared, but the offense did look much smoother with Jones under center. The former Giants QB had nice completions of 20-plus yards to Michael Pittman Jr. and Tyler Warren during his brief showing (two drives), and was able to lead a scoring drive.

Richardson led the lone touchdown drive between the two, but it was more volatile. He had a beautiful deep ball to Anthony Gould that was called back due to a penalty, but also had some errant throws, particularly a deep ball into major traffic in the end zone.

Again, it's close, but Jones gains the slim victory in this head-to-head on Saturday.

TreVeyon Henderson's explosive summer continues

New England's second-round rookie made waves last week with his 100-yard kickoff return to start the game, and continued to flash his explosiveness in Week 2 of the preseason. Henderson played sparingly, but rushed for 20 yards on four carries, which included a nifty touchdown run on third-and-4. Given how impressive he's been this summer, Henderson should have a sizable role in the Patriots backfield, if not start out of the gate.

As for the rest of the Week 2 action, you can keep track of it all below in our live blog. We'll have news, highlights, and analysis from all the games.

Dart sneaks for second touchdown of the day

Russell Wilson might be the Week 1 starter, but Jaxson Dart is their future and he's flashing bright this preseason. After tossing a touchdown earlier in the contest (his second of the preseason), the first-rounder out of Ole Miss decided to sneak in his latest score with a goal-line rush. Dart has completed 14 of his 16 passes thus far for 137 yards and two touchdowns (one passing and one rushing).

Jaxson Dart throws 20-yard touchdown

The Giants have built on their lead over the Jets as rookie Jaxson Dart tossed his second touchdown of the preseason. This time, he found tight end Greg Dulcich for a 20-yard throw up the seam. Dulcich also did a great job breaking open over the middle. After that score, Dart has completed six of his eight throws for 92 yards and that score. Pretty good from the first round pick.

Russell Wilson throws INT in end zone

Russell Wilson started off his night extremely strong, headlined by that 80-yard completion on the opening drive. Initially, it felt like that may be the only time we'd see him tonight, but Brian Daboll elected to give some of his starters a longer leash. That longer run didn't flash much more brilliance as Wilson was picked off in the end zone. It looked as if Wilson and his intended receiver were not on the same page.

Cooper Rush throws pick-6 vs. Cowboys

Cooper Rush, now with the Baltimore Ravens, was squaring off against his former Cowboys team on Saturday night. And he didn't exactly make them pay. On Baltimore's third possession of the night, Rush tossed a pass intended for LaJohntay Wester, but was picked off by Andrew Booth and taken 40 yards to the house.

Buccaneers rookie WR shines with TD

Emeka Egbuka has been arguably the star from Buccaneers training camp and we're starting to see why. Teddy Bridgewater found the first-round rookie for a five-yard touchdown to give Tampa Bay a 14-0 lead over Pittsburgh. If Egbuka can keep this surge going into the regular season and Chris Godwin remains sidelined, he could be in for a massive target share from Baker Mayfield.

Teddy Bridgewater connects with Bucky Irving

The Buccaneers are on the board during their preseason matchup with the Steelers after Teddy Bridgewater connected with Bucky Irving for a 15-yard receiving touchdown. The Bucs back showed off great receiving ability, flying up the right sideline with a defender draped on him and still coming down with the catch.

Jake Moody nets 59-yard game-winning field goal

Who says wins don't count in the preseason? After the defense was able to force a turnover with less than 30 seconds left in regulation, the 49ers got the football at the Las Vegas 41-yard line and kicker Jake Moody lined up and connected on a 59-yard game-winning field goal.

Ashton Jeanty powers over would-be tackler

The Las Vegas Raiders rookie back is doing his best Beast Mode impersonation after trucking a would-be San Francisco 49ers tackler during the club's second offensive possession of the day. Prior to this, Jeanty was briefly look at in the Raiders medical tent, but clearly he seems to be alright.

Brock Bowers hauls in leaping reception

Bowers had a rookie season for the record books, and is looking to back that historic campaign up with an equally stellar sophomore season. Already, the tight end seems to be in sync with his new quarterback, Geno Smith, as the two connected for a deep ball up the right sideline where Bowers had to leap over his defender to make the grab. These two could be special in 2025.

Quinn Ewers throws first NFL touchdown

The former Texas quarterback had a debut to forget last week, fumbling twice. However, Ewers does seem to be rebounding well and found the end zone in his second showing of the summer against the Detroit Lions. He completed a 15-yard touchdown to Theo Wease to knot the game up at 14. Ewers completed two of his four passes for 18 yards to go along with that score on the drive.

Efton Chism III scores dazzling touchdown

New England's undrafted receiver may have just clinched his spot on the 53-man roster. He had already been surging, but this touchdown where he weaved through Vikings defenders may have secured him a spot on the opening roster.

As noted by The Athletic, Dalton will not return to Carolina's preseason matchup due to a right elbow injury. AJ Dillon catches batted pass

Dorian Thompson-Robinson shouldn't have thrown the football after he was essentially dead to rights and about to be sacked, but he did. The ball was then batted at the line of scrimmage, tipped by a collection of lineman behind then line of scrimmage before being hauled in by running back AJ Dillon, who logged the 14 yard loss.

Malik Willis converts on fourth down

The Green Bay Packers elected to keep the offense on the field when facing a fourth-and-5 situation. Lucky for them, they have Malik Willis under center. Green Bay's backup, who has been filling in for Jordan Love as he recoups from surgery, flashed his escapability, dancing around would-be tacklers before connecting with John FitzPatrick to move the chains. The drive ultimately did not produce points, however, as Green Bay's field goal attempt was no good.
