You'd forgive Larry Fitzgerald if most of his time -- both on- and off the field -- was spent thinking about the halcyon days of Kurt Warner as a Cardinals quarterback. Such is life when you're watching Kevin Kolb and John Skelton battle it out for the rights to underthrow footballs in your general direction.

But Fitzgerald told Jim Corbett of USA Today recently that he tries not to think of Warner, since that's like dreaming of an "old girlfriend" while being in the same bed as your spouse.

"I try not to let my mind go there,'' Fitzgerald said. "It's like laying in bed with your wife, thinking about an old girlfriend. It's not fair.''

2012 Cardinals Preview

Read: Fitz thinks about Warner all the time. Or at least a "prettier" quarterback anyway.

There's obviously nothing he can do now to bring Warner back. Not that it would do any good, of course. Warner is old and he's removed from the game.

But the guy that Fitzgerald got for a bounceback -- Kevin Kolb -- after an incredibly rough season that featured Derek Anderson, Max Hall and Skelton, hasn't been what he was cracked up to be.

Kolb cost the team Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, a second-round pick and a hefty contract extension. And as of yet, he hasn't been able to separate himself from Skelton in the 2012 battle.

CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora reported on Tuesday that Kolb will be given every chance to win the job, but there's still a possibility that the Cardinals could bring in a third quarterback to improve the quality of their depth chart at the position.

If that ends up happening, hopefully the Cards will find someone who won't keep Fitz lying awake at night.
