NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Ryan Tannehill and the Tennessee Titans upstaged Patrick Mahomes' return to the field in Nashville, as the Titans defeated the Chiefs, 35-32, in a wild matchup.
Mahomes started off a little slow, but ended up throwing for 446 yards and three touchdowns. Derrick Henry was the main workhorse for the Titans on offense, and recorded 188 yards on the ground and scored two touchdowns. It was a back-and-forth affair that got wild in the fourth quarter.
Up five points with under two minutes left, the Chiefs were lining up to kick a field goal to extend their lead to eight. The snap was mismanaged, and the Titans got the ball near midfield with new life. Tannehill then took the Titans 61 yards down the field on four plays, and also converted the two-point conversion with his legs to take a three-point lead. Mahomes and the Chiefs quickly moved the ball downfield and set themselves up for a field goal in hopes of taking the game to overtime, but it was blocked by Joshua Kalu as time expired.
The Titans used a couple of big plays in the second half to score the upset victory, and it has become apparent that Tannehill is the answer for this team moving forward.
