Chiefs vs. Panthers Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Sunday's NFL game

Game Recap

The Kansas City Chiefs won the last time they faced the Carolina Panthers, and things went their way Sunday, too. The Chiefs narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Carolina 33-31. The overall outcome was to be expected, but the Panthers made it more of a game than the oddsmakers had predicted.

Kansas City's QB Patrick Mahomes did his thing and passed for four TDs and 372 yards on 45 attempts. Mahomes ended up with a passer rating of 165.40. Kansas City also relied on the talents of K Harrison Butker, whose two field goals, the longest a 55-yard boot in the second quarter, proved pivotal in the final score.

Carolina's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of RB Christian McCaffrey, who punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to catching ten passes for one TD and 82 yards, and QB Teddy Bridgewater, who passed for two TDs and 310 yards on 49 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. Bridgewater ended up with a passer rating of 140.10.

The victory -- their fourth in a row -- raised Kansas City's record to 8-1. The Panthers are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

The Chiefs will have some time to savor their win since their next matchup is a little ways off; they will square off against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium at 8:20 p.m. ET in two weeks. Carolina will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1 p.m. ET next week at home.
