Chiefs Roll Call: Training camp -- Week 1
Dwayne Bowe is still missing, but other than that, the Chiefs have everyone signed and ready to start training camp in St. Joseph, Mo.
As the Chiefs open training camp on Friday in St. Joseph, Mo., there's really only one question on everybody's mind: When is Dwayne Bowe going to show up? The Chiefs signed first-round pick Dontari Poe on Thursday, leaving only Bowe missing in action at Romeo Crennel's first camp as the team's head coach.
Who's here: Everyone but Bowe. RB Jamaal Charles, S Eric Berry and TE Tony Moeaki are expected to participate -- all three missed most of last season with knee injuries. Also returning from injury are S Kendrick Lewis and LB Brandon Siler. QB Matt Cassel is also in camp and healthy. Two new acquisitions in camp are expected to help Cassel return to his 2010 form: RT Eric Winston and RB Peyton Hillis.
Who's not: Bowe. The Chiefs put the franchise tag on Bowe this offseason and were unable to agree to a long-term contract by the July 16 deadline. That means that Bowe can either sign his tender, a one-year deal worth about $9.5 million, or not play. With Bowe absent, it's a big camp for second-year WR Jon Baldwin. Baldwin missed most of camp in 2011 and the first five games of the season with a thumb injury that occured during an altercation with former RB Thomas Jones. Baldwin will be featured at the No. 1 WR until Bowe shows. LT Branden Albert missed Friday morning's walk-through because of family issues, but he arrived in time for Friday afternoon's first official practice.
