Sabonis was one of four Kings to produce at least 20 points as the franchise improved to 4-2 on the season. After missing Opening Night with a hamstring issue, Sabonis has since double-doubled in five straight contests with averages of 14.8 points, 13.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.2 steals.

This was the best assist total through four showings for Sabonis, who is typically a nightly triple-double threat. It was also his best scoring night thus far, as he finished with 18 points. Carving out shots will be difficult beside Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan, but Sabonis is capable of producing well-rounded box scores like this on any given night.

Sabonis ended with 10 points (5-15 FG, 0-2 3Pt), 18 rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal over 35 minutes during Tuesday's 107-101 loss to the Thunder.
Sabonis didn't have his cleanest outing Tuesday, shooting inefficiently and committing five turnovers, but still managed to notch his third straight double-double to start the season while grabbing a game-high 18 rebounds. The big man is the ultimate double-double threat, having recorded 61 last season and an all-time single-season record 77 in 2023-24. Through three games this year, the 29-year-old is averaging 10.7 points, 14.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals.

The Kings announced Saturday that a recent MRI on Sabonis' right hamstring confirmed that the center sustained a Grade 1 strain during Wednesday's 109-91 preseason loss to the Clippers, Brenden Nunes of KHTK Sactown Sports 1140 reports. Sabonis is scheduled to be re-evaluated in one week.
While Sabonis' diagnosis doesn't represent a worst-case scenario, the fact that he won't be re-evaluated until next weekend means that he can be ruled out for at least the first two games of the regular season. With Sabonis sidelined, the Kings will likely turn to Drew Eubanks, Dario Saric and Maxime Raynaud to cover minutes at center in the short term.

Sabonis started cold and couldn't get anything going in the narrow loss, and was eventually pulled in favor of backups after racking up five fouls. His tepid showing is no cause for alarm, and it serves the Kings better to test out their bench rather than playing Sabonis for maximum minutes in the preseason. When the regular season begins, he will once again be a nightly double-double threat.
