Nationals' Julian Fernandez: Summoned to big leagues
Rotowire
The Nationals recalled Fernandez from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.
Fernandez was claimed off waivers in August and will now receive his first major-league opportunity since joining the Nationals organization. The 29-year-old has spent most of the season at the Triple-A level, where he's held a 4.17 ERA and 67:18 K:BB over 54 frames.

Nationals' Julian Fernandez: Scooped up by Washington
Rotowire
The Nationals claimed Fernandez off outright waivers from the Dodgers on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester.
Though Fernandez will report to the Triple-A level with his new organization, he may not have to wait long to earn a call-up to a Nationals bullpen that's lacking in impact arms. Before the Dodgers expunged him from their 40-man roster Friday, Fernandez had been enjoying a productive run at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He allowed just one earned run in 15.1 innings over his final 14 appearances for the affiliate and compiled a 22:5 K:BB during that stretch.

Dodgers' Julian Fernandez: DFA'd by Dodgers
Rotowire
The Dodgers designated Fernandez for assignment Friday.
The Dodgers claimed Buddy Kennedy off waivers from Toronto on Friday to compensate for Max Muncy (oblique) moving to the injured list, so Fernandez will end up as the roster casualty necessary to clear space on the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old has surrendered just one run and struck out 17 batters in 12.2 innings since being sent down to Triple-A in early July, which may help his chances of being claimed by another team off waivers.

Dodgers' Julian Fernandez: Poised for promotion
Rotowire
The Dodgers will call up Fernandez from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Monday's game in Milwaukee, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Fernandez has collected a 4.08 ERA and 32:10 K:BB over 28.2 inning this season with Oklahoma City. The 29-year-old's only big-league experience came back in 2021, when he permitted eight runs over 6.2 frames in six appearances for the Rockies. Fernandez is not on the Dodgers' 40-man roster, which is currently full, so the club will need to free a spot.

Dodgers' Julian Fernandez: Sent to minor-league camp
Rotowire
Fernandez was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Dodgers on Sunday.
Fernandez will head to minor-league camp after participating in spring training as a non-roster invitee, surrendering seven runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two batters over 2.1 innings in three appearances with the Dodgers. The right-hander hasn't pitched in the United States since 2023, and he'll look to stick around the Dodgers minor-league system to start 2025.

Dodgers' Julian Fernandez: Receives NRI pact with Dodgers
Rotowire
The Dodgers signed Fernandez to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Fernandez saw some brief action at the major-league level in 2021 but has toiled in the minors and Mexican League since then. The 29-year-old has been a hard thrower in the past and the Dodgers will see if they can harness that velocity.

Rotowire
Fernandez was designated for assignment by the Rockies on Saturday.

Rockies' Julian Fernandez: Available in relief Tuesday
Rotowire
Fernandez (elbow) is listed as an available option out of the Colorado bullpen for Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Fernandez hasn't seen any action in affiliated ball since 2018 spring training, as he's spent the better part of two years recovering from Tommy John surgery. Now seemingly healthy again, the 24-year-old is attending Rockies camp as a non-roster invitee. Considering he's never pitched above the Low-A level and has missed the past two seasons, Fernandez could open the campaign at a lower-level affiliate.

Rockies' Julian Fernandez: Returns to Rockies
Rotowire
Fernandez (elbow) was returned to the Rockies on Saturday.
Fernandez was plucked by the Giants from the Rockies in the Rule 5 draft back in December of 2017. He suffered an elbow injury prior to the 2018 regular season and has spent the entire time since then recovering from Tommy John surgery, first with the Giants and then with the Marlins after being claimed off waivers in November of 2018. Since he didn't spend any time on a big-league roster within two years of being drafted, he's now back in Colorado per Rule 5 rules.

Marlins' Julian Fernandez: Tosses side session
Rotowire
Fernandez (elbow) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session in Florida on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Fernandez underwent Tommy John surgery in April in 2018 and took a big step forward Monday by making it through a brief side session. Although he likely has at least a few months left of rehab, this is a good sign for the right-hander, who figures to toss at least a few more bullpen sessions before advancing to facing live hitters.

Marlins' Julian Fernandez: Shifts to IL
Rotowire
The Marlins placed Fernandez (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
A November waiver pickup, Fernandez was already expected to be sidelined for at least the first two months of the season while continuing to recover from April 2018 Tommy John surgery. The move to the 60-day IL confirms that Fernandez still has a ways to go in his rehab, which could extend through the All-Star break. Since the 23-year-old was previously a Rule 5 selection of the Giants last winter before sitting out 2018 following the elbow injury, he'll have to stick on Miami's active roster once activated from the IL or get offered back to the Rockies, the organization that originally signed him as an amateur free agent in 2012.

Marlins' Julian Fernandez: Scooped up by Miami
Rotowire
The Marlins claimed Fernandez (elbow) off waivers from the Giants on Monday.
The Giants declined to add the 23-year-old back to their 40-man roster earlier this month while he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery, which prevented him from pitching at any level in 2018. Considering Fernandez underwent the elbow procedure last spring, he should be available to pitch again at some point in 2019, though he'll almost certainly be stashed on the Marlins' 10- or 60-day disabled list to begin the campaign. Because the Giants previously poached Fernandez from the Rockies in the Rule 5 draft last winter, the Marlins will have to keep the right-hander on the roster throughout the season or offer him back to Colorado. Fernandez didn't accrue any MLB service time while the Giants kept him on the DL all of last season.

Giants' Julian Fernandez: Set for Tommy John surgery
Rotowire
Fernandez will have Tommy John surgery, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Tommy John surgery was an expected outcome for Fernandez after he was diagnosed with a sprained UCL on Tuesday. A Rule 5 selection in December, Fernandez will now miss the entire 2018 season and a good portion of 2019 as well.

Giants' Julian Fernandez: Lands on 60-day DL
Rotowire
Fernandez (elbow) was placed on the 60-day DL on Thursday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic Bay Area reports.
He was already on the 10-day DL with a UCL sprain, but the Giants moved him to the 60-day DL to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Gregor Blanco. Fernandez is in danger of missing all of the 2018 season if Tommy John surgery is needed.

Giants' Julian Fernandez: Struggles in spring debut
Rotowire
Fernandez (finger) allowed four runs on two hits and two walks while failing to record an out Monday against the Royals.
Fernandez was slowed by a finger laceration earlier in the month, but he returned to action Monday after taking a few days off to let the cut heal. His Cactus League debut didn't quite go as planned, however, as the 22-year-old Rule 5 pick allowed all four batters he faced to reach base before getting the hook. Fernandez should still get plenty of chances to prove he deserves a spot in the Giants' Opening Day bullpen, but he could ultimately be left off the team's 25-man roster and offered back to the Rockies if his spring struggles continue.
