  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Officially back with big club

The Nationals recalled Chaparro from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday. Chaparro should see a decent amount of playing time at first base and/or designated hitter with Nathaniel Lowe now out of the picture. The 26-year-old has slashed .275/.384/.577 with 14 home runs over 48 games this season with Rochester.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Promotion on tap

The Nationals are expected to recall Chaparro from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Tuesday's game against the Mets, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Washington optioned Jose Tena to Rochester after Sunday's loss to the Phillies, and Chaparro is poised to fill the open roster spot. Chaparro began the season on the injured list due to an oblique injury and has seen action in just four big-league games in 2025. He's been productive at Triple-A, however, and has a .268/.377/.575 slash line with 14 homers in 47 games.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Optioned to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Chaparro to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday. Chaparro played sparingly during his three weeks with the big club, going 1-for-11 at the dish. He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Paul DeJong's (orbital) return.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Recalled from Triple-A

The Nationals recalled Chaparro from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday. Chaparro was sidelined for the first two months of the season with a strained oblique, but he's earned a promotion after batting .304 with five home runs in 15 games with Rochester. The 26-year-old could see regular playing time against left-handed pitching.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Heading to big leagues

Chaparro is expected to be called up from Triple-A Rochester, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Chaparro is set to join the Nationals in New York ahead of their three-game series against the Mets beginning Tuesday. The 26-year-old missed the first two months of the year with an oblique strain, but he posted a .304 average with five home runs, 19 RBI and eight runs scored over 15 games with Rochester following his return to action May 28. Chaparro will now replace Nasim Nunez on the major-league roster after Nunez was sent down to Triple-A on Sunday.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Will start season on IL

Chaparro (oblique) is slated to begin the season on the injured list, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. An MRI last week on Chaparro's left oblique confirmed a strain, which will knock the infielder out of commission for a few weeks. Chaparro had been competing for the final spot on the Nationals' bench.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Sent for MRI on oblique

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Chaparro has left oblique tightness and will undergo an MRI on Saturday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Chaparro felt his oblique tighten up while he was taking batting practice Friday. The 25-year-old is competing for the final spot on the Nationals' bench, but any sort of strain would knock him out for Opening Day.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Injures side in batting practice

Chaparro was scratched from Friday's lineup against Atlanta after injuring his left side during batting practice, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Chaparro has put up a 1.008 OPS this spring as he competes for the final spot on the Nationals' bench, but he could now be looking at an absence. The club should offer more details on Chaparro later Friday.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Goes on paternity list

The Nationals placed Chaparro on the paternity list Tuesday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Chaparro will likely miss the entirety of the three-game set against the Royals before returning for the weekend series versus the Phillies. Juan Yepez should see an uptick in playing time for the Nationals while Chaparro is away.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Idle Saturday

Chaparro is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs. Chaparro is 3-for-32 (.094) in his last nine games and will get the day off Saturday to clear his head. Luis Garcia will fill in at DH while Jose Tena plays the keystone.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Resting Tuesday

Chaparro isn't in the Nationals' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets. Chaparro will get a day off Tuesday after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Monday's series opener. His absence will allow Juan Yepez to work as the Nationals' designated hitter and bat cleanup.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Four hits, three RBI in twin bill

Chaparro went a combined 4-for-9 with a home run and three RBI across both games of a doubleheader sweep versus the Pirates on Saturday. Chaparro went a quiet 1-for-4 in the opener but was a big producer in the nightcap. He plated Washington's first run in Game 2 with a third-inning single and then tied the score in the seventh frame with a two-run blast to left field. Chaparro has three homers and nine RBI over his past seven contests.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Belts third homer

Chaparro went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI on Thursday against the Pirates. Chaparro's two-run blast in the first was his third of the season and provided the Nationals with an early three-run cushion. He later was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth to drive in his third run, though by that point the game was out of reach for the Nats. The rookie DH has a .233 average with eight doubles and 10 RBI since his call-up Aug. 13, while all three of his homers have come over the last eight games.

Chaparro went 3-for-4 with three doubles, one RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Orioles. According to Jessica Camarato of MLB.com, Chaparro became just the fourth player since 1901 to hit three doubles in his major-league debut. He hit .328 with 23 home runs and 85 RBI at Triple-A this year and should continue to get opportunities to prove himself as a worthy trade-deadline acquisition.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Officially added to roster

The Nationals selected Chaparro's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Acquired from the Diamondbacks in the Dylan Floro trade, Chaparro is receiving his first major-league promotion after slashing .328/.405/.572 with 23 home runs over 105 games in 2024 at the Triple-A level. The 25-year-old is expected to play regularly while alternating with Juan Yepez at first base and designated hitter. Chaparro is starting at first base and batting sixth Tuesday in Baltimore in his major-league debut.

  • Diamondbacks' Andres Chaparro: Reaches agreement with Arizona

Chaparro agreed to a deal with the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Chaparro was one of the more coveted minor-league free agents on the market this winter, having put up 25 home runs and 89 RBI across 137 games this past season with the Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees. He registered a .963 OPS with 19 homers over 64 games at Double-A Somerset in 2022. The 24-year-old corner infielder could get his first taste of MLB action next season in Arizona, though the Diamondbacks' recent acquisition of Eugenio Suarez clouds that path a bit.

  • Yankees' Andres Chaparro: Hits another spring homer

Chaparro went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against Philadelphia. Anthony Volpe has been the prospect getting the most buzz in Yankees camp, but Chaparro has looked great too, slashing .314/.400/.743 with a team-leading five homers and 12 RBI. Chaparro was optioned to minor-league camp in early March, and unlike Volpe, he has yet to play at Triple-A. However, given his strong performance in camp, it wouldn't be surprising if he reaches that level -- and potentially gets a look in the majors -- at some point this season.

  • Yankees' Andres Chaparro: Dispatched to minor-league camp

Chaparro was reassigned to minor-league spring training after Monday's exhibition against the Pirates. Chaparro gained valuable experience while with the big-league club, as he went 4-for-16 with two homers, six RBI and three runs scored over eight spring appearances. He spent 64 games with Double-A Somerset in 2022 and certainly played well enough to earn a promotion, slashing .289/.369/.594 with 19 home runs, 52 RBI, three stolen bases and 36 runs scored. Even so, it remains to be seen whether he'll begin the year with Double-A Somerset or Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
