  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Strong outing in no-decision

Pfaadt didn't factor into the decision against the Guardians on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings. The right-hander gave up a run in each of the first two frames but settled in from there, retiring 15 of the final 18 batters he faced to record his first quality start since July 18. While he's struggled to find consistency this season, the outing was a reminder of Pfaadt's ability to command the zone and navigate a lineup multiple times. Since the All-Star break, the 26-year-old has posted a 4.43 ERA and 29:8 K:BB over 40.2 innings. He'll look to build on Wednesday's effort when he makes his next scheduled start against Milwaukee.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Strikes out four in eighth loss

Pfaadt (12-8) took the loss Friday against Colorado, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out four. The 26-year-old right-hander pitched at least six innings for the first time since his July 18 appearance versus St. Louis, which was simultaneously his most recent quality start. Pfaadt has just eight quality starts among 25 outings in 2025, but he was able to match a season high in pitches (100) Friday. He has a shaky 5.08 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 108:30 K:BB across 133 frames, and Pfaadt will likely remain a risky fantasy option his next time out versus the Guardians at home.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Falls apart in seventh loss

Pfaadt (10-7) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up seven runs on 11 hits -- including three home runs -- over 4.2 innings in a 12-2 rout at the hands of the Tigers. He struck out three without walking a batter. The Diamondbacks held a 2-0 lead through three innings as Pfaadt seemed to be in control, but things unraveled quickly for the right-hander, with all three long balls off him coming in a nightmarish fifth frame. It's the first time since June 5 that Pfaadt has been tagged for more than four runs and the first time since June 10 he's served up multiple homers, ending a sharp seven-start stretch in which he posted a 3.48 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 40:7 K:BB over 41.1 innings. Pfaadt will try to get back on track in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Padres.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Tosses seven scoreless innings

Pfaadt (10-6) allowed four hits and struck out six without walking a batter over seven scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Cardinals. Pfaadt has been effective over his three starts in July, allowing six runs over 21 innings while adding an 18:2 K:BB. Control has been one of his better areas this season, and it's good to see him rewarded with a couple of positive outings to bookend the All-Star break. Pfaadt still has a 4.82 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 90:23 K:BB through 106.1 innings over 20 starts this season. He is lined up for a home start versus Houston next week.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Completes eight frames in victory

Pfaadt (9-6) earned the win over San Diego on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out four batters over eight innings. Pfaadt was both effective and efficient in the outing, needing a comfortable 99 pitches to get through a season-high eight frames. In fact, this was just the second time this season he's completed more than six innings -- his previous high was 6.1 frames May 8 against the Dodgers. Pfaadt didn't overwhelm batters with just seven whiffs and four punchouts, but he limited the Padres to only four hits. He's unlikely to pitch again until after the All-Star break; if that's the case, he'll finish the first half of the campaign with a 9-6 record despite a poor 5.16 ERA and 1.31 WHIP along with an 84:23 K:BB over 99.1 innings (19 starts).

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Allows four runs in loss

Pfaadt (8-6) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings to take the loss versus the Giants on Thursday. Pfaadt had trouble against the top of the Giants' lineup, which was able to generate two runs in each of the first and third innings. This was Pfaadt's longest start since May 19 against the Dodgers, and it also saw him rack up a season high in strikeouts, but he was outmatched by a complete-game performance from San Francisco starter Robbie Ray. Pfaadt is now at a 5.42 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 80:23 K:BB across 91.1 innings over 18 outings. He's lined up to make his next start on the road in San Diego.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Serviceable in no-decision

Pfaadt did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk over five innings against Miami. He struck out seven. The right-hander notched seven strikeouts for the second straight outing, though his strikeout rate has dropped significantly from 9.2 K/9 in 2024 to 7.6 K/9 this season. After a strong start to the year in which he logged a 3.28 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over his first eight starts (46.2 innings), Pfaadt has struggled in his past nine, posting a 7.91 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 38.2 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Another solid outing

Pfaadt didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Toronto, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out three. Pfaadt has distanced himself from a brutal two-start stretch he endured as the calendar flipped from May to June in which he allowed 14 earned runs in three-plus innings. He's surrendered just four runs in 10 innings over two starts since then to get back on track. The 26-year-old has a 5.38 ERA on the year, but he's got a much more palatable 3.86 ERA outside of the two bad outings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is slated to come at Coors Field this weekend.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Bounces back Tuesday

Pfaadt (8-4) allowed two runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out four over five-plus innings to earn the win over the Mariners on Tuesday. Pfaadt had five scoreless innings on his ledger before allowing solo home runs to Randy Arozarena and Rowdy Tellez in the sixth. Even with the late fade, this was a massive improvement over Pfaadt's previous two outings, during which he allowed a total of 14 runs over three innings. The right-hander is still at an ugly 5.37 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 55:18 K:BB through 70.1 innings over 14 starts this season. His next start is projected to be on the road versus the Blue Jays next week.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Struggles again in no-decision

Pfaadt did not factor into the decision in Thursday's 11-10 win over Atlanta, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts over three innings. Pfaadt endured a five-run third inning highlighted by three consecutive Atlanta doubles. The 26-year-old has allowed at least four earned runs in four of his seven starts since the calendar flipped to May, including 13 over his past two outings. Those back-to-back rough starts have inflated the righty's ERA from 3.90 to 5.51, and he now owns a 1.36 WHIP and 51:17 K:BB across 65.1 innings. He'll try to get back on track in a home matchup with the Mariners next week.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Embarrassed in Saturday's loss

Pfaadt (7-4) failed to record an out while taking the loss Saturday versus the Nationals, allowing eight runs on six hits and two hit batsmen. Four of the six hits were doubles, which allowed the Nationals to keep the line moving during Pfaadt's brief outing. Scott McGough was unable to stop the bleeding immediately, and the Diamondbacks were down 10-0 before sending a batter to the plate themselves. The silver lining here is that it's tough for Pfaadt to ever have a worse appearance in his career. His ERA jumped from 3.90 to 5.05, and he's added a 1.32 WHIP and 49:15 K:BB across 62.1 innings over 12 starts. He's tentatively projected to make his next start on the road in Cincinnati.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Falls short of quality start

Pfaadt did not factor in the decision during Sunday's loss to St. Louis. He yielded three runs on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings while striking out five. Pfaadt gave up a run in each of the first, third and sixth innings, including Masyn Winn's solo shot in the third. Pfaadt has been taken deep five times in his last three outings after giving up just three home runs in his previous six starts. He struck out 41 batters through 46.2 frames to begin the year but has since punched out only eight batters in 15.2 innings. He now owns a 3.90 ERA across 11 starts. He's currently in line for a home tilt against the Nationals next weekend.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Gives up three homers in win

Pfaadt (7-3) allowed three runs on three hits and a walk while failing to record a strikeout over six innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Monday. Pfaadt had recorded no fewer than three strikeouts in any of his first nine starts this season. He wasn't as fortunate this time, but he had some luck on his side -- while all three hits he allowed were home runs, they were also all solo shots, and they came after Arizona had opened with seven runs over the first three innings. Pfaadt can do better, but this was his sixth quality start of the season as well as his second win over the Dodgers on the year. He's maintained a 3.81 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 44:14 K:BB across 56.2 innings so far. His next start is projected to be in St. Louis this weekend.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Yields four runs in loss

Pfaadt (6-3) allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings to take the loss versus the Giants on Tuesday. A Christian Koss grand slam in the second inning accounted for all of the runs on Pfaadt's line. His two shortest starts of the season have come across three outings in May, but he sandwiched 6.1 scoreless innings versus the Dodgers between those poor performances. Overall, Pfaadt is now at a 3.73 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 44:13 K:BB through 50.2 innings over nine starts. He's projected to make his next start on the road versus the Dodgers as he looks for a repeat performance of his last matchup with them.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Tames Dodgers for sixth win

Pfaadt (6-2) allowed four hits and three walks while striking out six over 6.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday over the Dodgers. Pfaadt had his worst start of the year his last time out, allowing seven runs (six earned) in 4.2 innings versus the Phillies. He rebounded against another tough foe, posting his fifth quality start and second scoreless outing of the season while keeping the Dodgers' offense in check. Pfaadt is now at a 3.28 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 41:10 K:BB over 46.2 innings across eight starts this season, which is looking like a breakout year, though he is giving up a few too many baserunners. He's lined up to make his next start on the road in San Francisco.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Shaky in first win Friday

Pfaadt (1-1) picked up the win after allowing four runs on six hits and no walks in six innings Friday against Washington. He struck out four. The right-hander was plagued by the long ball Friday, giving up a solo homer to CJ Abrams and a two-run shot to Luis Garcia in the opening frame. Pfaadt settled in to throw four scoreless innings thereafter, but Nathaniel Lowe took him deep for a solo blast in the sixth frame. Pfaadt has handed out just one free pass to go with nine strikeouts over his first 12 innings of the year, but he'll carry a 5.25 ERA into his next scheduled start in the middle of next week at home against Baltimore.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Strong start Sunday

Pfaadt allowed two hits and struck out seven over five scoreless innings in Sunday's spring start against the Padres. Pfaadt was impressive in his fourth Cactus League start against a legit regular season San Diego batting order. After giving up a leadoff single in the first, Pfaadt set down the next 12 batters in order before a harmless leadoff single in the fifth -- the runner was eliminated on a double play. The right-hander threw 57 pitches (43 strikes) and left a good impression on manager Torey Lovullo, who has yet to settle on a No. 5 starter. The manager is mulling Pfaadt, Ryne Nelson and Jordan Montgomery for the final rotation spot.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Rebounds Tuesday

Pfaadt allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out two over three innings in Tuesday's spring game against the Royals. Pfaadt didn't start the game and came on to pitch innings five through seven after Merrill Kelly and Justin Martinez got the Diamondbacks through the first four frames. This was Pfaadt's third Cactus League outing and decidedly better than his previous appearance when he was chased after 1.1 innings. Despite working out of the bullpen Tuesday, Pfaadt remains in the mix for the final spot in the rotation, along with Ryne Nelson and Jordan Montgomery.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Rough second outing

Pfaadt was unable to get out of the second inning in his second spring start Wednesday, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. He allowed three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two over 1.1 innings. Pfaadt elevated his pitch count to 46, even if the results weren't pretty. The right-hander's outing was the first in a line of starters battling for the Diamondbacks' final rotation spot -- Ryne Nelson will pitch Thursday, and Jordan Montgomery (finger) is scheduled for his spring debut Friday. If Pfaadt had a lock on a rotation spot, then Wednesday's performance could be chalked up to a pitcher just getting his work in, but instead his numbers will get measured against his competition.

  • Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Strong finish to regular season

Pfaadt (11-10) picked up the win Sunday against San Diego, allowing one run on three hits and a walk across 5.1 innings. He struck out nine. Pfaadt's September has been a roller coaster, as he's yielded four or more runs in three of six starts but given up only five runs in his other three appearances combined. In those three impressive starts, he racked up 31 strikeouts over 18 innings. Pfaadt has a 4.71 ERA and a 185:42 K:BB across 181.1 innings in the regular season, and if the Diamondbacks make the playoffs, he's likely to be part of the team's rotation.
