  • Braves' Tyler Kinley: Bumpy Atlanta debut

Kinley gave up two hits and a walk in a scoreless seventh inning during Thursday's extra-inning win over the Reds. He struck out one. Making his debut for Atlanta after being acquired from Colorado on Wednesday, Kinley was brought in with the game tied 3-3 and nearly made a mess of things, loading the bases with one out before getting Spencer Steer to pop out and fanning Jake Fraley. With closer Raisel Iglesias surprisingly still on the roster after the trade deadline, Kinley will be on the fringes of high-leverage work for his new club while Pierce Johnson and Dylan Lee continue to handle setup duties.

  • Braves' Tyler Kinley: Dealt to Atlanta

Atlanta acquired Kinley from the Rockies on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Austin Smith, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Atlanta is expected to be a seller ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, but Kinley's contract contains a fairly reasonable $5 million club option for 2026. The 34-year-old holds a 5.66 ERA this season, but he's struck out 51 over 47.2 innings and could find more effectiveness away from Coors Field. Kinley could be in the mix for saves in Atlanta, depending on what other relievers get moved prior to the deadline.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Secures save Sunday

Kinley earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 extra-innings win against the Brewers, pitching a clean inning with two strikeouts. After Kyle Farmer knocked home the automatic runner in the top of the 11th, Kinley succinctly wrapped the game on 12 pitches, nine of which were strikes, in the bottom of the frame. The 34-year-old was able to notch his first save since June 6, while Seth Halvorsen, who had recorded Colorado's previous three saves, pitched a scoreless ninth to force extras. Kinley now sports a 6.75 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 35:24 K:BB across 36 total innings.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Blows three-run lead

Kinley (0-3) allowed four earned runs on four hits and one walk while recording just one out to take the loss Wednesday against the Giants. Kinley entered the game in the eighth inning with a three-run lead, but he allowed five of the six batters he faced to reach base. The big blow came from Mike Yastrzemski, who delivered a two-run double to tie the game at 6-6. Kinley has now allowed multiple earned runs in three of his last four outings, though Zach Agnos has also struggled mightily in high-leverage situations of late. That could open the door for Seth Halvorsen to get the next few save chances.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Notches second save

Kinley struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his second save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Marlins. With Zach Agnos on the bereavement list and Seth Halvorsen having pitched two straight days, the save opportunity fell to Kinley, and he breezed through Miami's 2-3-4 hitters on 15 pitches (nine strikes). Kinley did record 12 saves in 2024, but he's no better than third in the pecking order this year for the Rockies despite a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 9:7 K:BB over his last 11 innings dating back to May 10.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Struggles continue in second loss

Kinley (0-2) took the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks in 1.1 innings during Tuesday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Cubs. He struck out one. Kinley's struggles on the mound continue, as he now owns an abysmal 10.03 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and 9:11 K:BB over his last 11.2 innings. The 34-year-old right-hander has a lone hold and just one save in two opportunities on the campaign, so he remains well behind Zach Agnos and Seth Halvorsen in Colorado's bullpen hierarchy. The recently returned Victor Vodnik also looms as an option in high-leverage situations.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Notches first save

Kinley allowed a hit and struck out three batters in a scoreless inning during Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Nationals. He earned a save in the win. Kinley coughed up a leadoff single to Dylan Crews before striking out the next three batters to close out the 3-1 victory. It was Kinley's first save of the year. He's thrown eight consecutive scoreless frames after coughing up two runs in each of his first two appearances of the season. Seth Halvorsen pitched 1.1 innings during Game 1 of the doubleheader.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Perfect in spring outings

Kinley has not allowed a run and has a 6:1 K:BB across four innings of Cactus League action. Kinley is among the top candidates to begin the season as Colorado's closer, and he's performed very well to begin spring training. He earned a career-high 12 saves with the Rockies in 2024, though that was paired with an ugly 6.19 ERA and 1.47 WHIP.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Good to go for spring

Kinley (elbow) isn't expected to be operating with any restrictions in spring training after having a normal offseason, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. Kinley finished last season on the injured list after developing right elbow inflammation in September, but he needed only a brief period of down time before he was able to resume throwing. With Colorado making no major additions to its bullpen during the offseason, Kinley should factor into the team's unsettled closer picture in 2025, just as he had last season before getting shut down due to the minor elbow issue. Over his 64 innings, Kinley turned in poor ratios (6.19 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 13.7 K-BB%), but the 34-year-old got the job done when called upon in save situations, converting 12 of his 13 opportunities.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Placed on IL with elbow injury

Kinley was placed on the Rockies' 15-day injured list Friday due to right elbow inflammation. Kinley's placement on the injured list will end his season, and he'll finish the year with 12 saves and 15 holds while recording a 6.05 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 72:33 K:BB over 64 innings. Kinley took over as the Rockies' top closer after Victor Vodnik landed on the IL in mid-August, but the latter figures to reclaim that role for the rest of the regular season with the former on the shelf. Right-handed reliever Jake Bird was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Locks down save

Kinley struck out one batter in a perfect inning and earned a save against Milwaukee on Sunday. Kinley retired the Brewers' 2-3-4 hitters in order to close out the 4-1 victory. Since coughing up four runs against the Marlins on Aug. 27, he's converted four straight save chances without allowing a run. He's now 11-for-12 in save chances with a 5.98 ERA and a 68:31 K:BB through 61.2 innings, though it's worth noting that teammate Victor Vodnik (biceps), who has nine saves this season, was activated from the 15-day injured list Sunday.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Another save Friday

Kinley earned the save in Friday's 3-2 win over the Brewers, issuing one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. The Brewers got the tying run into scoring position against Kinley, after the right-hander walked Jake Bauers with one out before Brewer Hicklen swiped second base as a pinch runner. However, Kinley would escape with his 10th save of the year after Hicklen was thrown out at third trying to advance on a Rhys Hoskins flyout. The 33-year-old Kinley has now converted his last three save chances, including two in back-to-back days. His ERA sits at 6.08 on the season with a 1.47 WHIP and 67:31 K:BB across 60.2 innings. Kinley may soon return to a set-up role, however, with Victor Vodnik (biceps) nearing a return.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Fans two for ninth save

Kinley struck out two over a perfect ninth inning to record the save over Atlanta on Thursday. Kinley ran right through the middle of Atlanta's lineup after entering the contest with a two-run lead in the ninth, getting Jorge Soler and Marcell Ozuna to go down on strikes before producing a groundout for the final out. The right-hander has now recorded saves in three of his last four appearances, recording multiple strikeouts in each of those three outings. Thursday's save was his ninth of the campaign and his fourth since the start of August.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Nails down eighth save

Kinley picked up the save over Baltimore on Saturday, allowing one walk over one inning while striking out three. He also beaned a batter. Kinley entered the contest with a two-run lead in the top of the ninth and walked Cedric Mullins to lead things off before getting the next two batters to go down on strikes. The right-hander would then make things interesting by hitting Gunnar Henderson with a pitch to put the winning run on first. However, he was able to strike out Adley Rutschman to end the contest and secure his eighth save of the campaign. It was a solid bounceback effort for Kinley after he coughed up four runs in his previous outing, and he's now recorded multiple strikeouts in three of his last six appearances. He finishes the month with a 3.55 ERA for August to go along with a strong 16:3 K:BB.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Surrenders four earned runs

Kinley allowed four earned runs on three hits and a walk while failing to record an out Tuesday against the Marlins. Kinley has picked up the lone save for the Rockies since Victor Vodnik (shoulder) was placed on the injured list, and he entered Tuesday's game in the ninth inning with a four-run lead. Though he wasn't charged with a blown save or loss, Kinley allowed all four batters he faced to reach base, concluding with a two-run double with the bases loaded. It's unclear whether this meltdown will affect his status as closer, though Kinley had maintained a 1.53 WHIP and 0.74 WHIP across 17.2 innings since the All-Star break prior to Tuesday's appearance.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Could be in line for save chances

Kinley allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning to earn a hold Tuesday against the Nationals. Kinley entered the game with a 3-1 lead and continued his solid run since the All-Star break. In 16 games -- spanning 16.2 frames -- he's maintained a 1.62 ERA and 0.78 WHIP to go along with an 18:5 K:BB. Notably, Victor Vodnik (shoulder) was unavailable Tuesday night, and Kinley would likely be next in line for save chances should Vodnik remain sidelined.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Picks up sixth save

Kinley picked up the save in an extra-inning win over the Angels on Thursday, striking out one over a perfect 10th inning. Kinley's number was called in the bottom of the 10th as Colorado looked to hang onto its 3-2 lead. The right-hander did not disappoint, retiring all three batters he faced on 15 pitches to secure his sixth save of the campaign and first since June 11 against the Twins. Victor Vodnik has been serving as the primary closer for the Rockies in the absence of Daniel Bard, though Kinley got the late-inning call after the former was needed in the ninth. The 33-year-old has not allowed any hits or runs in three straight appearances.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Fires two shutout innings

Kinley pitched two shutout innings Sunday against the White Sox, allowing zero hits and one walk while striking out one. The 33-year-old worked around the ghost runner in both the 11th and 12th innings, allowing just a single baserunner on an intentional walk. Fellow reliever Jalen Beeks earned the win in the 14th inning, but Kinley remains the preferred closer despite owning an ugly 8.27 ERA on the year. Both relievers will be in the mix for saves moving forward as part of a volatile Rockies bullpen.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Serves up grand slam

Kinley allowed four earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one to record his only out Tuesday against the Dodgers. Kinley entered the game in the ninth inning with the Rockies up by five runs. He allowed three of the first four batters he faced to reach base before serving up a grand slam to Jason Heyward. He was pulled immediately thereafter, sparing him a loss or blown save, but it was still a disastrous outing that ultimately led to a Rockies loss. Kinley has taken over as Colorado's primary closer, though he's now given up six earned runs across his last three appearances spanning 2.1 frames.

  • Rockies' Tyler Kinley: Snags save Thursday

Kinley allowed a hit and struck out one batter in one-third of an inning to earn the save in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals. Jalen Beeks entered the game in the eighth inning and got five outs, but Kinley was the one to get the last out for the save. This was Kinley's fourth scoreless outing in his last eight -- he's given up too many runs to be reliable on a regular basis, though he hasn't taken a blown save yet in 2024. The right-hander is at three saves and four holds with an 8.03 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 27:14 K:BB over 24.2 innings.
