  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Could be cleared to hit soon

Arenado (shoulder) could be cleared to resume hitting as soon as Thursday or Friday, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Arenado has been rehabbing his right shoulder strain at the Cardinals' spring training complex in Florida and said Tuesday that he's "making strides" in his recovery. The veteran third baseman does not appear close to returning, however, as he has yet to resume hitting or throwing. The former is expected to occur later this week, and the latter could happen shortly thereafter. It seems unlikely at this point that Arenado will be back before September.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Being evaluated by team doctors

Arenado (shoulder) was scheduled to meet the Cardinals in Miami and will be evaluated by team doctors Tuesday, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Arenado has been rehabbing his right shoulder strain at the team's spring training complex in Jupiter, FL, and made the short trip to Miami to join the club. It does not seem as though Arenado's activation from the 10-day injured list is imminent, but the Cardinals expect to have a clearer picture of his timetable after he meets with team doctors. Arenado has been sidelined for the entirety of August.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Will not return during road trip

The Cardinals do not expect Arenado (shoulder) to return from the 10-day injured list during their upcoming Aug. 18-24 road trip, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Arenado reported to the team's spring training facility in Florida on Friday and his focus for the first week he's there will be to regain strength in his injured right shoulder. It's not clear when the veteran third baseman might be ready to rejoin the Cardinals' active roster. St. Louis has used Nolan Gorman (six starts) and Thomas Saggese (two starts) at the hot corner since Arenado landed on the IL.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Could return from IL on Aug. 18

Arenado (shoulder) is tentatively slated to rejoin the Cardinals on Aug. 18 before their series against the Marlins, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Arenado is headed to the team's spring training complex in Jupiter, Florida on Friday to strengthen his injured right shoulder before eventually participating in rehab games with the club's rookie-level Florida Complex League squad. If all goes well on that front, he will then make the short drive from Jupiter to Miami to rejoin the Cardinals for the start of a road trip. Arenado has slashed just .167/.219/.200 over his last 17 games since suffering finger and shoulder injuries.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Heading to Florida for rehab

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Arenado (shoulder) will report to the team's spring training complex in Florida on Friday to begin his rehab, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Arenado will first work on strengthening his injured right shoulder, and if he shows sufficient improvement in that regard, he will be cleared to begin a rehab assignment with the club's rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate. The veteran third baseman remains without a timeline to return from the 10-day injured list, but a target date for his return should become clearer as he ramps up his rehab. Nolan Gorman has been filling in at third base for St. Louis since Arenado went down with the injury Friday.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Placed on injured list

The Cardinals placed Arenado on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right shoulder strain. Arenado's shoulder has been bothering him for about a month, which was reflected in his .175/.230/.211 slash line for the month of July. He'll now take at least 10 days to recover from his strain properly; meanwhile, Nolan Gorman (back) will return from the injured list to take Arenado's place at the hot corner.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Will be placed on IL

The Cardinals are expected to place Arenado on the 10-day injured list prior to Friday's game against the Padres due to a right shoulder injury, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. The veteran third baseman played through the injury for most of July, which may have affected him at the plate as he had a .175/.230/.211 slash line in 17 games during the month. Arenado will be eligible for reinstatement August 10 but is without an official timeline for his return.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Taking seat Monday

Arenado is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins. Arenado has gone 1-for-13 at the plate during the first four games of the Cardinals' homestand and appears to be getting a routine day off Monday. Thomas Saggese will cover third base and bat eighth for the Cardinals.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: To be asked about trade preference

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said Monday that he will approach Arenado in the week leading up to the trade deadline to ask for the third baseman's preference if a trade possibility surfaces, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Arenado has a full no-trade clause and used it to shut down a potential trade to the Astros over the offseason. It's uncertain what the 34-year-old's appetite is for waiving the clause at the trade deadline, nor is it clear what level interest there will be in Arenado from contenders. Arenado has had a fine year defensively at third base but further regressed at the plate, slashing only .241/.299/.381. He's owed $42 million over the next two seasons, with the Rockies being responsible for $5 million of that.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Back in lineup

Arenado (finger) is batting sixth and playing third base Friday against Arizona. Arenado missed back-to-back games before the All-Star break due to a sprained right index finger. However, he'll be back in the starting nine coming out of the break, reclaiming his spot at the hot corner. He's slashing .246/.305/.388 with 10 home runs in 347 plate appearances this season.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Sitting out Saturday

Arenado (finger) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus Atlanta. Arenado sprained his right index finger during Friday's contest -- the second time he's done so in the past two weeks. He'll take a day off to heal Saturday, and the Cardinals may opt to keep him on the bench until play resumes following the All-Star break.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Removed with sprained finger

Arenado was removed from Friday's game against Atlanta with a sprained right index finger, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Arenado injured the same finger toward the end of June, which caused him to miss the first two games of July. If he ends up having to miss more time, Thomas Saggese would likely fill in as St Louis' third baseman.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Back in St. Louis lineup

Arenado (shoulder) will start at third base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game versus the Nationals. Arenado missed the previous three contests with a right shoulder impingement and was also out of commission for a couple games last week due to a finger issue. However, he's feeling well enough to give it a go Wednesday.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Expected back in lineup Wednesday

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Tuesday that he would be "surprised" if Arenado (shoulder) is not back in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Nationals, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Arenado missed a third straight start Tuesday due to a right shoulder impingement, but the third baseman said he felt "drastically" better than he did during the Cardinals' scheduled off day Monday. Barring a setback, it sounds like Arenado will be back at the hot corner Wednesday.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Held out of lineup again Tuesday

Arenado (shoulder) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals. Arenado missed the final two games of the weekend series against the Cubs with a right shoulder impingement and had an extra day of rest with the Cardinals being idle Monday. Manager Oliver Marmol said Arenado is feeling better and hopes to avoid the 10-day injured list, but more will be known about his status Wednesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Nolan Gorman is at third base and batting fifth for St. Louis.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Sitting again Sunday

Arenado (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The veteran third baseman was scratched from the lineup Saturday due to a right shoulder impingement and will sit for a second consecutive game Sunday. According to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat, Arenado said he's feeling "drastically better" Sunday, so he seems likely to avoid a trip to the injured list. Thanks to Monday's team off day, Arenado will head into Tuesday's series opener versus Washington with four straight days of rest.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Scratched from lineup

Arenado was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's game versus the Cubs due to a right shoulder impingement, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Arenado missed two games earlier this week due to a sprained finger, but a new shoulder issue will hold him out of Saturday's contest. The Cardinals are labeling him as day-to-day for now and will instead start Thomas Saggese at third base against Chicago.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Ready to go Friday

Arenado (finger) is starting at third base and batting sixth Friday against the Cubs. The third baseman has been sidelined all week due to a sprained right index finger, but he'll rejoin the starting nine for Friday's series opener in Chicago. Arenado batted .275 (28-for-102) with three doubles, four homers, 14 RBI and 14 runs over 27 contests in June.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Remaining on bench Wednesday

Arenado (finger) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. After spraining his right index finger in Sunday's win over the Guardians, Arenado went 0-for-3 as the Cardinals' designated hitter in Monday's 7-0 loss to the Pirates. The injury was still bothering him enough coming out of that game for the Cardinals to hold him out for Tuesday's 1-0 loss, and the veteran third baseman will get another day off to heal Wednesday. Thomas Saggese will cover the hot corner in place of Arenado, who will benefit from a team off day Thursday before potentially returning to the lineup for this weekend's series versus the Cubs.

  • Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Battling sprained finger

Arenado was diagnosed with a right index finger sprain Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Arenado initially injured himself Sunday and worked as the DH on Monday, but he will be held out of the starting nine entirely Tuesday while Nolan Gorman starts at the hot corner. X-rays on Arenado's finger came back negative, so he's being considered day-to-day for now.
