The Orioles will offer pitcher Mark Hendrickson a minor-league deal, according to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun. The deal would include an invitation to major-league camp.
The 38-year-old last pitched in the majors in 2011 and has since adopted a sidearm delivery. Orioles manager Buck Showalter initially suggested the 6-foot-9 Hendrickson try to lower his arm slot, believing Hendrickson’s height could create deception. Hendrickson has already been working with Orioles pitching coach Rick Adair.
Hendrickson is expected to head to spring training as a reliever, which was the role he had with the team from 2009 to 2011. In 1,169 career innings, Hendrickson has a 5.03 ERA and a 4.51 FIP.
