Report: Diamondbacks designate Lyle Overbay for assignment
Lyle Overbay was two for his last 25 with the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks have designated first baseman Lyle Overbay for assignment, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reported Monday.
Overbay spent a good chunk of the early season platooning with Paul Goldschmidt at first base, and in sum Overbay notched a .292/.367/.448 line for the club. However, Overbay has been awful in his last 15 games, going 2-for-25 with a .080/.115/.080 line. Prior to June 19, Overbay had a 1.023 OPS.
The club could still trade Overbay, who could offer some use as a left-handed power bat off the bench. He has an .859 OPS against righties this year and an .824 mark for his career.
