The Orioles have called up Nate McLouth and designated Endy Chavez for assignment, reported MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli. 

  • McLouth will start in left field for the Orioles on Saturday night. He'll bat seventh in the lineup. 

  • McLouth played 34 games for the Pirates this season before being designated for assignment by Pittsburgh. He hit a disappointing .140/.210/.175 with no home runs and two RBI. 

  • In 47 games with Triple-A Norfolk, McLouth hit .244/.325/.461 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI. 

  • McLouth had an out-clause in the minor-league contract he signed with the Orioles and was ready to opt-out at midnight on Friday. 

  • McLouth had a strong July with Norfolk, posting a .925 OPS. He hit eight home runs, scored 21 runs, and had 22 RBI.

  • Chavez was batting .190/.222/.281 in 47 games with the Orioles, and will now go on waivers.
