Mariners vs. Tigers ALDS schedule, prediction, odds, TV channel as Detroit ties series, forces Game 5
Seattle and Detroit are meeting for the first time ever in the postseason

The Seattle Mariners earned a bye to the ALDS round by virtue of finishing 90-72 this season, which was good enough for their first AL West title since 2001 and the second-best record among AL division winners. The Detroit Tigers had hopes of getting a bye for nearly the entire season, but blowing a 14-game lead in the AL Central meant they needed to hit the road in the Wild Card Series as a No. 6 seed. No matter -- the Tigers took down the Guardians in three games to advance here.
Detroit eked out an extra-inning win in Game 1 and Seattle needed late-inning heroics to even up the series with a Game 2 victory. Despite a ninth-inning rally by the Tigers in Game 3 Tuesday, the Mariners held on to win 8-4. Detroit won't go down easily, though, and the series is headed to a win-or-go-home Game 5 Friday after the Tigers won 9-3 in Game 4.
The Tigers and Mariners have never squared off in the playoffs before, so it's a fresh matchup. The Tigers haven't won the World Series since 1984, while the Mariners are the only team in baseball to have never been to the World Series. Game 5 storylines
Tigers: After the Detroit offense lay mostly dormant for the first two games, the Tigers lineup rallied in the ninth inning of Game 3 and then went off in Game 4 to force a Game 5. With Tarik Skubal back on the mound Friday, they just have to keep it up.
Mariners: That aforementioned Skubal? Yeah, the Mariners now have to beat the likely Cy Young winner or they're headed home for the winter. Or, at the very least, they have to hang around long enough to get to the Tigers bullpen.
Game 5 prediction
Tarik Skubal deals and holds the Mariners' offense at bay while he's in, but the Mariners pitchers keep it close and the home teams finds a way to break through late. We'll even say it's a walk-off series clincher in T-Mobile for the Mariners and their tortured fan base. -- Matt Snyder
