The Braves have signed first baseman Lyle Overbay to a minor-league contract, the club announced Monday via Twitter. He will report to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday and should arrive in Atlanta on Sept. 1 when rosters expand to 40.

Overbay hit .292/.367/.448 before the Diamondbacks designated him for assignment on July 31. He finished his season with Arizona going 2 for 25.
