Adam Lind, Carlos Villanueva in flux with Blue Jays this offseason
Adam Lind and Carlos Villanueva both could be out of Toronto next year.
Adam Lind and Carlos Villanueva could both be out of Toronto by opening day 2013, John Lott of the National Post has reported.
Lind is guaranteed $5 million next season but has struggled mightily in 2012, hitting just .232/.293/.374 and earning a one-month demotion to Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the year. He looked like he broke out in 2009 when he hit .305/.370/.562 (141 OPS+) but he has yet to crack even a 100 OPS+ since.
Villanueva, a free agent after the season, has provided surprisingly good results out of the rotation: 13 starts, 78 innings, a 3.58 ERA and 73 strikeouts against just 20 walks. However, the 28-year-old has shuffled between the bullpen and rotation throughout his career and his 13 starts ties a career high. Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopolous expressed some uncertainty as to whether Villanueva has the durability necessary for a typical starter's load.
