Gilbert was recalled from AHL Rochester on Thursday.
Gilbert's promotion comes as Olen Zellweger (concussion) was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Whether the 29-year-old Gilbert suits up in the season opener against Columbus on Thursday will likely depend on the availability of another defenseman, Matthias Samuelsson (lower body).
