  • T.J. Hockenson TE | MIN

Vikings' T.J. Hockenson: Plays in preseason opener

Hockenson started at tight end and played eight snaps on offense, but he wasn't targeted in the passing game in Saturday's preseason win over Houston, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Hockenson missed time in practice earlier this week with a hip flexor.

It was surprising to see Hockenson play in the first preseason game given his injury scare earlier in the week. Even though he didn't do much in the game, it shows he's ready for the regular season.

  • Anthony Torres TE | LAR

Rams' Anthony Torres: Exits with ankle injury

Torres (ankle) has been ruled out to return to Saturday's preseason game against the Cowboys, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.

Torres, who signed with Los Angeles back in April after going undrafted out of Toledo, has spent training camp and the offseason competing for a depth role at tight end. He'll attempt to get healthy in time for the Rams' second preseason game, which will occur Saturday, Aug. 16 against the Chargers.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Not expected to play Saturday

Kittle isn't warming up ahead of Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos and isn't slated to play, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

The 49ers are holding out most of their regular starters for the preseason opener, as Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and Ricky Pearsall, among others, are also apparently sitting out despite being healthy. With Kittle observing from the sideline Saturday, Luke Farrell figures to get a good look at tight end in his first game action with San Francisco since signing as a free agent during the offseason.

  • Jake Ferguson TE | DAL

Cowboys' Jake Ferguson: Won't suit up Saturday

Ferguson (lower back) will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Ferguson departed Thursday's practice early due to a lower back contusion but returned to the field in time for Friday's non-padded session. While it sounds like the starting tight end is mostly dealing with pain management and isn't a candidate to miss any regular-season time, the Cowboys will nonetheless take a cautious approach to his participation level. Ferguson's next chance to suit up for preseason action will come Aug. 16 versus the Ravens.

  • Dalton Kincaid TE | BUF

Bills' Dalton Kincaid: Sees limited work Saturday

Kincaid caught his only target for 10 yards in Saturday's 34-25 preseason loss to the Giants.

The third-year tight end hauled in a Mitchell Trubisky pass on Buffalo's first drive and quickly checked out of the game after that, with Dawson Knox instead catching a red-zone TD pass from Trubisky in the second quarter. Kincaid is locked into the top spot on the depth chart, but his first task in 2025 is just to stay on the field. Knee injuries limited him to 13 regular-season games last season. which resulted in 44 catches for 448 yards and two touchdowns on 75 targets, a big step back in production from his dynamic rookie campaign. Kincaid appeared fully healthy in Saturday's cameo appearance, but he's already dealt with some knee soreness in training camp, an ominous sign for his fantasy value.

  • Johnny Mundt TE | JAC

Jaguars' Johnny Mundt: Won't play Saturday

Mundt (upper body) will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.

Mundt has been limited in practice due to an upper-body injury, and he'll be held out of Saturday's preseason opener to avoid aggravating the injury. He'll have two more chances to make an appearance during the preseason, with the next game taking place Sunday, Aug. 17 against the Saints. Quintin Morris, Patrick Herbert and Shawn Bowman are candidates to see an uptick in snaps at tight end due to Mundt's absence.

  • Theo Johnson TE | NYG

Giants' Theo Johnson: Sees early volume Saturday

Johnson caught both his targets for 10 yards in Saturday's 34-25 preseason win over the Bills.

Both of Johnson's receptions came on the Giants' opening drive with Russell Wilson under center, and the duo connected a third time, only for the play to be wiped out by a penalty. The second-year tight end missed time as a rookie with a foot injury, but over his final five games in 2024 he posted an intriguing 18-216-1 line on 27 targets. Johnson has been healthy in camp and has some breakout potential given his size and athleticism, as well as the glimpses of chemistry he showed Saturday with Wilson.

  • Dalton Schultz TE | HOU

Texans' Dalton Schultz: Not on track to play Saturday

Schultz isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Schultz, who profiles as the Texans' top tight end, is among the Texans' key players on track to sit the contest out, so the soonest he might see preseason snaps is Aug. 16 against the Panthers. The 29-year-old put up a 53/532/2 receiving line in 17 regular-season games with Houston in 2024.

  • Kenny Yeboah TE | DET

Lions' Kenny Yeboah: Past leg issue

Yeboah (leg) suited up for the Lions' preseason game against the Falcons on Friday.

Yeboah has been working through a leg injury that he suffered during the Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers on July 31. He was healthy enough to make himself available for Friday's game, though he didn't play a single snap. Yeboah could have a larger role in the Lions' third preseason game against the Dolphins on Saturday, Aug. 16.

  • Cameron Latu TE | PHI

Eagles' Cameron Latu: Nursing groin injury

Latu did not participate in Saturday's training camp practice due to a groin injury, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Latu may have picked up the injury during the Eagles' 34-27 preseason win over the Bengals on Thursday, when he played 23 snaps (seven on offense, 16 on special teams) while recording one solo tackle. The 2023 third-rounder has a slim shot of making the Eagles' 53-man roster as a backup tight end, and an extended absence will diminish those chances even further. Latu will look to recover enough to return to practice and be available for the Eagles' second preseason contest against the Browns on Saturday, Aug. 16.
