Colts' Daniel Jones: Won't play this preseason
Daniel Jones won't play in the preseason, according to Jonathan Jones of CBSSports.com.By all accounts, Jones' recovery from the torn right Achilles that he suffered in Week 14 last season has gone well, but the Indianapolis Colts will play it safe with their starting QB. Per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star, Anthony Richardson will start Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots and play the first half, while Riley Leonard will work in the second half, an arrangement that is in line to be reversed in the team's second exhibition tilt against Atlanta.

Colts' Daniel Jones: Unlikely to play Thursday
Daniel Jones is unlikely to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.Boyd adds that Jones will only participate in Tuesday's joint session against New England, and the veteran quarterback may not play any preseason games while in the final stages of his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered in December. Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson will be the Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks for Thursday's exhibition contest, the first opportunity for the duo to compete for the backup role behind Jones.

Colts' Daniel Jones: Full throttle in training camp
Daniel Jones has not missed a single snap with the first-team offense and has not taken any days off from practice in training camp, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.Jones tore his Achilles tendon in December of last season, but that hasn't stopped him from being a pull participant in training camp practices despite recently being cleared to take part in team drills. The veteran quarterback was in the midst of a career year before sustaining the severe injury and finished the 2025 regular season having completed 68.0 percent of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions while turning 45 carries into 164 yards and five scores across 13 games. Jones is well on track to play in Week 1 against the Ravens on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Colts' Daniel Jones: Deems himself fully healthy
Daniel Jones (Achilles) said on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday that he'll be "full go to start training camp" Wednesday.Jones said he'll be participating in 11-on-11 drills when training camp opens Wednesday, which would suggest he won't begin camp on the active/PUP list. "I'm ready to go," Jones continued. The quarterback suffered a season-ending torn right Achilles in Week 14 last season and is nearly eight months removed from the injury. Jones threw at OTAs during the spring, and his rehab has gone off without a hitch by all accounts.

Colts' Daniel Jones: Continues to progress
On the subject of his Achilles rehab, Daniel Jones said Friday, "I'm doing everything. Cleared to do everything. I think it's just about, at this point, sharpening that," James Boyd of The Athletic reports. That said, Jones acknowledges the injury he sustained Dec. 7 last year is still on his mind, noting on that front, "you're still thinking about it. I think (you) probably will until you get playing." An important milestone in the QB's ongoing recovery will be a return to 11-on-11 drills, with Coach Shane Steichen having previously noted that the plan is for Jones to resume work in those drills when training camp begins later this month.

Colts' Daniel Jones: Should see 11-on-11 work next month
Coach Shane Steichen said this week that Daniel Jones (Achilles) is expected to participate in 11-on-11 drills when training camp begins next month, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.Jones, who suffered an Achilles' tear Dec. 7 last year, has been been working in the seven-on-seven portions of practice, and per Boyd, the QB asked about about moving on to 11-on-11's during the team's minicamp this week. On that topic, coach Shane Steichen noted, "we want to be super smart with him...I mean, could he potentially do it (11-on-11)? Yeah, probably. He probably could, but we're not going to do that right now." In any case, Jones' recovery remains on track, and assuming no setbacks this summer, he'll continue to work toward being ready to go for the Indianapolis Colts' Sept. 13 regular-season opener against the Ravens, with the signal-caller's eventual participation in team drills representing a major milestone toward that.

Colts' Daniel Jones: Throwing at OTAs
Daniel Jones (Achilles) is present at OTAs on Wednesday and is throwing to teammates on individual routes, Joel Erickson of the Indianapolis Star reports.Jones continues to progress in his recovery from a torn right Achilles suffered early last December, and it's encouraging to see him already handling individual dropbacks and passing drills at OTAs. While Indianapolis has yet to provide an expected timetable for Jones' return to team drills, after OTAs conclude his next chances to ramp up his activity level will arrive during mandatory minicamp from June 9-11, and then during training camp in July. In Jones' stead on Wednesday, Anthony Richardson started first-team reps for the Indianapolis Colts' offense, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports. After signing a two-year, $88 million contract extension in March, Jones is locked in as Indianapolis' starting QB when 100 percent healthy. In April, GM Chris Ballard expressed optimism that Jones could be ready for Week 1, and for his part the 29-year-old signal caller "absolutely" expects to be available at that time, per James Boyd of The Athletic.

Colts' Daniel Jones: Making progress
Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen noted Tuesday that Daniel Jones is already handling dropbacks at this stage of his recovery from a torn right Achilles, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.Jones suffered his Achilles tear on Dec. 7 last year, so the QB still has a way to go in his recovery, and the Colts have not yet offered a timeline on when Jones might be fully cleared. Steichen did note that the signal caller is having a "phenomenal rehab," adding that he's confident Jones is doing everything he can to be ready sooner rather than later. With Jones still on the mend, Riley Leonard will handle first-team reps during OTAs, as Anthony Richardson (eye) -- who has requested a trade -- wasn't present at all for the start of Indy's voluntary workout sessions.
