Griffin was released by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
The Buccaneers will seemingly keep two quarterbacks -- Blaine Gabbert and rookie second-round pick Kyle Trask -- to back up Tom Brady. Griffin has thrown just four regular-season passes since entering the NFL in 2013. He'll be a practice-squad candidate.
