  • Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Exiting starting nine Monday

Horwitz is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.

The left-handed-hitting Horwitz could end up settling into a full-time role with the Pirates eventually, but he'll take a seat for the series opener versus the Reds while lefty Nick Lodolo takes the hill for Cincinnati. After being reinstated from the injured list Saturday after he had been on the shelf all season while recovering from a procedure to alleviate pain in his right wrist, Horwitz started at first base in the final two games of the Pirates' weekend series with the Phillies, going 1-for-6.

  • Matt Mervis 1B | MIA

Marlins' Matt Mervis: Grabbing seat Monday

Mervis is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Mervis has seen his playing time slip lately, as this is the fourth time over the Marlins' last 10 contests versus right-handed pitching that he's been out of the lineup. The 27-year-old is just 3-for-30 with a 44.1 percent strikeout rate across his last 12 games. Liam Hicks is in the designated hitter spot and batting seventh in Monday's series opener.

  • Rays' Jonathan Aranda: Sitting with lefty on hill

Aranda is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros.

After starting in each of the Rays' last eight games, the left-handed-hitting Aranda will take a seat while Tampa Bay faces a lefty starter (Colton Gordon) for the first time since May 9. Curtis Mead will step in at first base in place of Aranda, who owns an excellent .312/.396/.507 slash line on the season but has been far more effective against right-handed pitching (178 wRC+) than lefties (102 wRC+).

  • Curtis Mead 3B | CHW

Rays' Curtis Mead: Getting first start since May 9

Mead will start at first base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Mead will crack the starting nine for the first time since May 9, after he had been on the bench for each of the past eight contests while the Rays opposed right-handed starters. The 24-year-old is batting just .169 on the season and looks like he'll remain in a short-side platoon role for the foreseeable future.

  • Jonathon Long 1B | CHC

Cubs' Jonathon Long: Exits Triple-A game early

Long left Saturday's game for Triple-A Iowa due to a tight leg muscle, Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register reports.

Long is slashing .367/.429/.533 with four home runs, two steals, a 9.5 percent walk rate and a 24.9 percent strikeout rate in his first 40 games at Triple-A. His 33.9 percent hard-hit rate is strong, but Long's .486 BABIP illustrates his good fortune in the early going. He hasn't been placed on Iowa's injured list and should be considered day-to-day for now.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

    Garrett Cooper: Released by Atlanta

    Atlanta released Cooper on Sunday.

Cooper inked a minor-league contract over the offseason but has been cut loose after slashing just .228/.312/.309 in 35 games with Triple-A Gwinnett. The 34-year-old will now be on the lookout for another minor-league deal elsewhere.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Stays hot with two doubles

Olson went 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Red Sox.

The first baseman has reeled off three straight multi-hit performances, with four of his seven hits during that stretch going for extra bases including homers Friday and Saturday. Those were Olson's multi-hit efforts in May however, as he began the month slashing .173/.254/.365 with a 35.6 percent strikeout rate in 14 games. Despite that cold spell, he has respectable power numbers on the year with nine homers and 25 RBI in 47 contests, and he's more than capable to stretching his current heater straight through into June.

  • LaMonte Wade RF | LAA

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Hits second triple of 2025

Wade went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Athletics.

Wade entered as a pinch hitter and lined a leadoff triple to right field in the eighth inning before scoring the game-tying run. The first baseman has shown signs of turning things around after a slow start to the season, going 4-for-11 with two runs scored, an RBI, a triple, a double and a 2:2 BB:K across 13 plate appearances in his last five games. Wade is now slashing .165/.266/.281 with 14 RBI, 11 runs scored, 10 extra-base hits -- including one home run -- and a 17:31 BB:K across 140 plate appearances so far this season.

  • Royals' Jac Caglianone: Bumped up to Triple-A

The Royals promoted Caglianone from Double-A Northwest Arkansas to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.

Caglianone will head to Omaha after producing a .316/.385/.546 slash line with nine home runs, two stolen bases and a 21.3 percent strikeout rate over 174 plate appearances in his 38 games with Northwest Arkansas this season. The sixth overall pick in the 2024 MLB First-Year Player Draft is now just one step away from reaching the big leagues, and a promotion should come later this summer if he continues to rake against International League pitching.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Paces offense again Sunday

Torkelson went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

After plating Detroit's only run of the game on a solo home run Saturday, Torkelson once again provided the team's offense Sunday, with the key play being a two-run double in the first inning to put his team up 2-0. The infielder now has a robust .886 OPS and leads the Tigers with 12 homers and 38 RBI, continuing a bounce-back campaign after a disappointing 2024.
