The Tigers will place Paddack on the bereavement list Wednesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Paddack will be away from the team for at least three days following a death in his family. Earlier Tuesday, the Tigers announced that Paddack had been demoted to the bullpen, and the right-hander was put to work right away. He retired just four of the 13 batters he faced in the Tigers' 12-5 loss to the Mets, allowing six earned runs on eight hits.
