The Red Sox designated Sanchez for assignment Monday.
Sanchez will give up his spot on the 26-man active roster and 40-man roster to first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, who signed a one-year contract with the team. Sanchez had been serving as Boston's third catcher while Carlos Narvaez dealt with a nagging knee issue, but he's received just one plate appearance during his week-and-a-half stint with the club.
